[BF3Blog]Battlefield 3 to have 3 times as much DLC as Bad Company 2 - Page 10

It seems nearly every one is assuming all these DLCs are going to have a price tags. Supposedly a DLC can be free too. We will see. The only Dice game I've played is BF2142 and there never was a "DLC" for that. One "Expansion" and five "patches" (One of which added a new map for free), but never anything called a DLC. DLCs can mean anything you download that introduces new game content now-days.

So here is to hoping that All of these "DLCs" will be free for the most part. Though I have no problem paying for one if it is something good...Like the Northern Strike Expansion was for BF2142. Now if they relaese something that gives some an advantage on every map than that is wrong. The DLCs should include maps and any changes should only be on those maps as to not affect any player who doesn't buy it. That is all I want to see. The skin thing I hear about in BC2 would be OK as long as it didn't allow them to hide better or anything.

I don't spend money on DLC. they cost more than 20% of a new game and don't have the enough stuff in the DLC to justifiy it to me. I would rather just spend my money on another game.

Northern strike was a booster pack. It contained only 3 maps, 2 vehicles, and 10 unlocks for kits.

the vietnam DLC/expansion provided 5 maps, 6 new vehicles, and 15 weapons.

There is nothing different with these DLC from what booster packs such as norther strike/euro force/ armored fury has already provided. And actually the vietnam DLC/expansion is bigger than any of the booster packs provided previously.

Oh, and the northern strike boost pack provided people who bought it with advantages in kit unlocks that were not available to people who didnt have the expansion, until you earn enough points in a match to unlock it for that match only. Not to mention that people who bought the special forces expansion in battlefield 2 gained another set of unlocks for guns that other players did not have access to.

Way to many people are blinded by the labeling of the content being provided, and not what has been provided, and if it is any different than what we had previously from DICE and the battlefield series. To those who dont know. NOTHING IS DIFFERENT.

Things are the same as they have always been. Just now we can expect much more in the way of guns, vehicles, maps, and whatever else they throw at us.

Ditto. The BC2 expansion was just fine. Especially for what you paid. However EA has a history of making very big attempts at shanking everyone by charging way too much for way too little. Or just having the game be incomplete at launch.

It is addition content (DLC) that is available on the day of release.
I dunno if you need to attend the Zoolander for Children Who Can't Think Good, but that means they have the option of including it in the retail copy of the game - but decided to make it a payed for DLC (or free with pre-order, as an incentive for people to pre-order).

Is it going to be free like BFBC2? I don't wanna go around having to buy maps. NO THANKS NO THANKS NO THANKS. We already know that people who pre-order the game will get the BF2 maps for free... But will people who don't pay 10 bucks and didn't preorder never get them? Because i am not planing on either preordering (i never buy games without trying) or paying for maps. I would wait a few weeks (like 4 or 5) to get them for free though.

That's probably why they don't want to release the mod tools with the game.

I mean, Vietnam was quite the expansion pack and well worth the 15 bucks. But 5-15 bucks for maps... NO WAY.

another ill informed person.

the maps in the back to karkand pack feature vehicles, and weapons for those maps. It is the equivalent to a vietnam pack, only available at launch also.

Alright, i was ill informed. But what about my other points?

And even if i was ill informed, i did mention that charging ~10 bucks for something like Vietnam was.. acceptable.

With the announcement of Battlefield 3, it was revealed that the Limited Edition of the game would include new content called “Back to Karkand”, which will feature 4 Battlefield 2 maps remade for Battlefield 3, in addition to a few BF2 weapons and vehicles. Those who do not get the Limited Edition will be able to download DLC 30 days after release, although it’s unclear whether it’ll be free or not.

  • DICE will have more focus on post-release content (DLC)
  • No mod tools at release.
Not likely that those DLCs they're focusing on will be free.

BF2 didn't have mod tools at release either. Mod tools were actually community driven and had nothing to do with DICE. DICE eventually hired the developer who made a basic editor but ending up using yet another community made mod tool that turned out to be so good they preferred it over their own in-house tool. DICE never set out to make mod tools available before, it was the community who did it.

DLC developed concurrently with the game should be on the disc. Thanks and goodbye.
