Loop order help..

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
I just got my 2nd rad in a black ice 240 and a mcw82 block to add to my loop and I'm needing some help on what will be best loop order. Currently with just cpu I have res>block>rad>res and my temps are really great. Just wondering what order I should use now with the 2nd rad and gpu block.
Thanks,
Nick

All that really matters is where the pump lies. The direction of flow doesn't matter a whole lot as long as you're not shooting water into the res first Typically Res -> Pump, then however you can route your tubes the cleanest. If possible, see if you can put the second res between CPU and GPU, but overall it doesn't really matter.

I've tried a few configs and the best results I've gotten are res-pump-rad-sli gpu from bottom to top-cpu- back to res. I read an article about making your water flow go from low in the case and pump upwards gpu then up to cpu. Basically the theory behind it is since heat rises, it is best to have the water flow up. Otherwise, the water is constantly trying to fight the heat downward. I was sceptical but I did get a few degrees cooler with this config. Id give it a shot. Hope this helps!

I'm sorry but that theory is bull.

The water temperature will only change by a very small amount as it goes through the loop. Roughly speaking, it takes 250W to heat the water by 1°C at 1GPM, so even with a dual GTX590 loop you are looking at ~350W / card = 700W + 200W for CPU = 900W / 250 = 3.6°C temperature rise.

The difference in density between water 3.6°C apart is going to be very slight, and therefore the buoyancy that it experiences is going to be minimal. Compare that to your pump's power and it won't even be measurable.

Any difference you got from changing your loop order, and I am not saying that you didn't get any, is due to something else, not hot water rising.

@OP - Basically with the heat dump we are dealing with the change in water temperature is very slight. Due to this it really makes very little difference what order your components are in. It is best to order things to give the shortest possible length of tubing, as this will help flow rates. Plus it looks nicer.
