what do you guys think?

Thread Starter
I am looking to build a new desktop for myself, trying to make it top of the line.
i think i am going to go with the Intel Core i7-970 Gulftown 3.2GHz 6 core x 256KB

my question is what do you think is the best motherboard for this cpu?

I see a wide variation in price but not much variation in what the boards feature. I have looked at a few boards can you huys give me your opinions on which one i should choose or if theres another one thats even better to buy?

also i read that the cpu i chose only supports up to 12gb of ram at 1600 and 24gb at 1066 si this true? if so does that mean ill run into issues running 24gb at 1600 or higher?

no they all support the same memory capacity. Anyways it depends on what you want in the board, is this system all about overclocking? is it about gaming? or is it about everything?

for gigabyte i really like their X58 boards, you cannot go wrong with any of there X58 boards, but personally i like the X58A-OC it just released, but its missing a lot of connectivity on purpose b/c its really made for extreme ocing.

The E770 you posted is also a very good board, as is the asus rampage 3 extreme.

If you are an extreme gamer you can find refuge in the G1. Assassin or asus ramapge 3 extreme black edition.

All around good bang for your buck for X58 is the UD3R you posted or the UD5, the R3E formula is also good.
