computer powers on when plugged in.

Thread Starter
This is my first post on overclock.net, and also my first ever post anywhere.

i recently got "new" parts for my old computer, and after installing the "new" parts (motherboard + cpu) into the annoying HP case that i had my old parts in, the computer at first powered on for 2 secs then off, i took the motherboard out and realised that it was touching the metal plate that slides and locks the motherboard into place. after adjusting the metal plate so that it did not touch the board, the computer worked fine for a bout 2 days, and now suddenly it restarted with no boot. Computer will not turn off unless its unplugged, if plugged back in, it turns on straight away with no boot.

I would appreciate any help, thank you

Typically after a motherboard is shorted in that manner, there's pretty much no hope left.

At first I was going to suggest turning off the AC power back--on function in BIOS, but if the board was shorted that probably won't help anything.

I see... although the computer worked fine for a few days after i fixed that problem, and just before i tested the old parts and the same problem occured.
