I know you said you don't have a mouse.. That may be a problem with the game I suggest: Torchlight. No doubt your computer can run that game. It's a great time waster, and you can either play small bits at a time or just dive into it.

I have played it with my laptop's built-in mouse. It's possible, but a $10 wireless mouse will make a huge difference.

Emulators are perfectly legal to download, roms are not regardless of whether you own the game. Unless you make one yourself, which would fall under fair use as a backup.

To the OP: I'd check out good old games. And if you like RPG's I'll 2nd Baldur's Gate.

Most of the steam suggestions here are more along the lines of recent, graphically appeasing arcade games.

I want to know about games that are actually older, but fun to play. Like the Sims 1 and Sim City 4. They aren't the best in graphics, but they aren't UGLY and they're still really fun.

Minecraft just isn't my style. I know it's popular but, it's not for me.

Another game I liked was Total War: Rome. I ended up trying Total War Medevil II, and didn't like it at all.

Right now I'm going to try and play SC4 some more, but it seems to always crash to the desktop after like, 45minutes of play time and I lose a crap ton of progress. And besides that, I've never been good at it. I'm a very organizational, symmetrical person. But this game just has cities grow like weeds. I don't like it :/

Bump. Could my laptop run minecraft well?

I'm considering buying it. Even though I have a hard time believing it's worth $21

Also: Is it not worth getting if I plan to only do single player? I just want to waste some time and mess around. I don't feel like getting into some social network of minecraft users and having this consume my life

Activating the blocks makes a melody from left to right... I find myself sitting there messing with that thing for like 45 minutes some times

I found that on Stumbleupon awhile back. Pretty awesome

Still considering minecraft though...

it said i couldnt run MW2 on my old laptop and it worked fine -_-.

Also remember to turn off the power saver from the intel integrated control panel.

Oh yea minecraft... i don't play to much but its actually pretty good time waster..

I'm watching some tutorials and it looks fun. I just don't want to buy it and find out I can't run it.

Also you could try some Oblivion with the Oldblivion Mod... I had the game running at ~22fps on a 2.2GHz Dual Core, 4500MHD, and 2GB laptop...
