Asus Sabertooth x58 vs Rampage 3 Extreme. Which is better?

Thread Starter
Hi Guys,

I would like to get your input here on which of these two board would be better with 980X CPU and two GTX 580s. Want to get the maximum out of the processor and the cards. Things like the Bluetooth feature and the ROG Connect dont worry and price difference is not an issue. I just want to get the max out of my other components

The R3E is better. First because on the Sabertooth your two PCI-E slots to run x16/x16 SLI are right next to each other. The cards are going to run really hot and have no room to breathe. On the R3E, you run them in the first and third PCI-E slots and you can still run x16/x16. This allows the cards room to "breathe" and they're going to run much cooler. Also, hardware quality wise the R3E is definitely in the god tier of X58 boards along with the EVGA X58 Classified, Gigabyte X58A-OC, and Foxconn Bloodrage. You're looking at:
Quote:
ROG Extreme Engine Digi+
- 8-phase CPU power
- 3-phase QPI/DRAM power
- 3-phase NB power
- 3-phase Memory power
- ML Caps on CPU, Memory and QPI respectively

Which essentially means you can push your 980X to the limit without worrying about anything. Kind of like this guy did:
