Need help with Water Cooling build.

Thread Starter
Howdy Fern here again with some more questions and concerns, only this time I am following procedure by asking questions before I buy. I stumbled across OCN a little too late once I bought and built my sig rig. I'm going for a water cooled overclocked whisper quiet gaming pc. But then again who hasn't?

So once the BD is released, so will the plethora of reviews, benchmarks and opinions of it as well. Depending on how well it performs, I will go BD or 2500K, no real preference really. I'm guesstimating that should all be well and done by the end of 3Q.

Around that time I would like to Xfire my 6850 and add those 2 cards to the loop. I do intend to OC to 4.0GHz. I was thinking of going for the a XSPC Rasa 360 kit and adding another 360 rad to the loop. What is the difference inbetween the RS and RX rads?

I don't want to narrow my choices for a case to just Corsair and Mountain Mod cases are kinda a tad bit too much for my needs in my opinion. What other cases are available that can happily accommodate 2 360 rads, have great cable routing features and still have a lot of room to work with?
Oh also the less rice the case has the better

I guess it is safe to assume that GT's are the perfect candidate for silent WC computing? Also would I need multiple fan controllers for the 3-12 fans I would be using? Or are the GT's already quieter than a mouse? Does a push/pull set up give about the same results as it does on a heatsink, minimal 1-3C drops in temp?

Also, what does 6850 xfire equal to as far as the 69XX goes? I'm thinking it would be cheaper to get a single 69XX and just wc that one card but if I did that, would I still need 2 360 rads?

So my main concerns are....

A single or dual rad loop
suggestions of ample sized or an awesomely designed cases
xfire 6850 or single 69xx (not a fan of Nvidia at all)

Did I miss anything?

Thanks! :]

According to the official XSpc FAQ a RX360 kit is capable of running cpu+2gpu

The Rx360 is a thicker rad so can use slower fan speeds then the RS360

A few questions first:

What's your price range?

Silence, performance, or in the middle?

Single or doublewide case?

Case price range?

Judging by the fact he is looking at crossfire for his 6850, I think caselabs is a little overkill.

This case was just put on newegg and has some nice options for watercooling:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-011-_-Product

Can fit a 360 or 420 up top, a 480 in the front, and a 240 in the bottom (though it would interfere with the psu without modding).

As for the amount of rads for what you suggested, 2 x 360 seems way overkill for the components you are looking to cool. 1 x 360 would be plenty at least for SB and 2 6850s or 1 69xx. However, with a case like the one I suggested that will not break the bank like a $400+ caselabs, you always have room to add more rads in the future if you change/add components.

As for the performance of a 2x6850, it will outperform a 6970:

lol caselabs. Noty. Good cases, but I can't stand the interior. All of the cable management holes look like poop and the psu location makes dealing with cables horrendous. It's still part of the 4 higher end brands tho: Little Devil, Danger Den, Mountain Mods, and Caselabs. If you have the money those 4 brands are really the only ones to buy unless you are having one completely custom built.

Well I am not on an enthusiast budget nor am I on a 16 year old budget. I guess if I were to put a number down it would be 600 for the loop and up to 300 for the case. Now I am not aiming for the very best but I don't mind spending extra to get quality components.

Single wide case

And I want a good balance of performance and quietness.

Then the Little Devil PC-V8 might fit your needs. It is however a little higher than 300$. But hell, you'll not have any troubles upgrading your loop in the future if need be.

Danger Den Tower 29 ($380) and the Mountain Mod Pinnacle ($280) also fit the bill. Tower 29 comes in 8 different color schemes and the Pinnacle comes in any color you can imagine.
Tower 29 (can fit 480/560 rad + a 360/ 280 rad)

Pinnacle (can fit a 480 rad and a 360 rad or 2x 360 rads depending on Pinnacle 18 or 24 model)

There is also the Tower 26 for $220 which is also a good option.

I own both mountain mods and Danger den cases. They're both awesome build quality. Danger Den does have the best customer service of any computer parts company hands down. They will make custom panels for the case without any fuss and every thing is shipped in a timely manner. My Double Wide Tower 29 came with a panel I didn't want and they sent the correct one the next day. Debbi from DD is also working with me on making custom panels so I can shove even more rads in my rig.

On the wc side of things I would stay away from a kit if you are spending any considerable amount on a case, esp the fore mentioned ones. A $600 loop can cool what you want easily. You just have to make the choice of whether you want complete silence, performance regardless of noise or a mixture of both.

+1 on the Pinnacle
