GTX 470 Load in games

Thread Starter
Hi, I noticed that my GPU load under gaming isnt what i expexted.

I tryrd with several games, Operation Flashpoint Red River, NFS Shift 2 Unleashed, BBC2, The Withcer 2...
When i play my GPU usage is bewtwenn 40 and 80% and changes a lot...
Is this normal or there is something wrong. Becouse i've noticed in some games my FPS isnt quite good for this card.

Maybe my CPU struggle the card?

GPU - Galaxy GTX 470 GC 775/1750

CPU - Intel Dual Core E7300 ( Clocked 3.85Ghz)

I could use some help, thanks, mates

I play at 1680x1050.

Is there any way that I can know for sure that the problem is in the CPU?

you could use .. i think it was evga percisiion and look at cpu usage durring when your gaming (with on screen display while gaming) if the cpu is at 100% and gpu is at 80% then it would be a bottle neck, if its at 80% cpu and 80% gpu its prob something else. i guess the goal is for less then 100% cpu usage (80-90%) and 100% (or about) gpu usage

What software did you recommend for the test ?

EDIT: I just cheked with Batlefield Bad Company 2,
CPU usage 100%, Gpu Usage 65-85 and varies...

EDIT 2: I played a little and here is what Ive got:

BBC2 without GPU Clock and with CPU Clok from 2.66 to 3.8Ghz - GPU Usage 80-95, CPU Usage 90-100

BBC2 with GPU Clock and Without CPU Clock - GPU Usage 50-70, CPU Usage 100%

I use one spot from the game and apply the overclock of the GPU, and after doing so, immediately I lose 10-15 of GPU usage, so this is a clear sign that my CPU cant handle this card...

I also noticed there isnt any FPS imrove with the clock fo the card, that is ( I think ) becouse the GPU dont load at max.

BFBC2 is coded for 6 threads, your on a dual core (2 threads) so its pushing you CPU to 100% trying to keep up with your GPU.

Most games will be different tho, BC2 is one of the few games coded for that much CPU activity..

What I do is have something monitoring my GPU usage, and have task manager up in the back round, every once in a while ALT+Tab and look at the usage, try it in a few other games...

But basically the E7300 even clocked at 4.0 is going to bottleneck in some games.

TOnight i will test it with Crysis 2.
But there is visible notice in GPU usage with and without the clock of the card.
Its something like 10-20% low usage with 775/1750 clocks!

If your saying there is 10 - 20% less activity with the card overclocked that makes sense. After all your cpu is bottlenecking it. So making it faster wont help. Making your cpu faster will...

Crysis 2 should be a big difference. Its a console port so its not coded for much cpu use at all...
Here is what I get.....
