Here, when playing Crysis 2

CPU Usage -

GPU Usage -

Also, every time when the game freezes and drop from 65-70 Fps to 25-30, i saw serious GPU Usage drop too...

How do you guys test usage in games? What software or program? Is there a way to record with the windows performance manager? There is no GPU area.

hmm looks like a cpu bottle neck for bad company 2 (which i hear uses alot of cpu) so prob have to clock the cpu a bit higher or go quad i would say. But also seems that gpu oc is the difference between partial and total cpu usage

But for programs Evga percission or msi afterburner are the two more popular ones

at 3.95 are you still getting 100% usage? *sigh* at least crysis is working out

Just a point of clarification ... 100% CPU usage is a great indicator that you ARE CPU-BN'd. HOWEVER, less than 100% CPU usage doesn't necessarily mean you are not, esp. w/a quad. With a dualie, it's probable that you are not CPU BN'd if CPU usage is <100%, but not a certainty.

EDIT: I just cheked with Batlefield Bad Company 2,
CPU usage 100%, Gpu Usage 65-85 and varies...

EDIT 2: I played a little and here is what Ive got:

BBC2 without GPU Clock and with CPU Clok from 2.66 to 3.8Ghz - GPU Usage 80-95, CPU Usage 90-100

BBC2 with GPU Clock and Without CPU Clock - GPU Usage 50-70, CPU Usage 100%

I use one spot from the game and apply the overclock of the GPU, and after doing so, immediately I lose 10-15 of GPU usage, so this is a clear sign that my CPU cant handle this card...

I also noticed there isnt any FPS imrove with the clock fo the card, that is ( I think ) becouse the GPU dont load at max.
This is all very much indicative of a CPU BN. BFBC2 requires a good deal of CPU power to run well, and definitely likes quads a lot more than dualie's. However, just because you're BN'd on BC2 doesn't mean you are on everything else. It's just one game, and every game is different. + if you have a CPU BN, might as well raise the IQ settings a bit

Most games will be different tho, BC2 is one of the few games coded for that much CPU activity..

Actually, BFBC2 is coded for 4 cores/threads. It looks like 6 in Task Manager, but it's actually not.

To see what I'm talking about, try this test: Lower all the settings in the game to their lowest, v-sync off, etc. This will create very high FPS, and hence a very CPU BN'd situation. Then change the Task Manager view to 'one graph, all CPU's'. Then play the game for awhile.

When you do so, you will discover that the total CPU usage will hover at almost exactly 50%, with perhaps an occasional spike above that for background processes. 50% x 8 'cores' = 4 cores.

This is actually the proper method for calculating you how many cores a game is actually coded for. Counting the graphs w/usage on them, as you've done here ... will deceive you about the reality of the situation

I have a lot of new games on my external drive, so, I will install 2-3 of them and see what is the situation

Maybe I am going for Core i5 760, and see will there be any difference

EDIT:

Operation Flash Point: Red River and The Witcher 2 - the same thing, GPU usage under 90, CPU at 100%, well, at least, maybe, now I can be sure that this is the problem!

Guys, a little offtopic, but no need to start new topic just for that.

I am heading for i5-2500k, ASUS P8H67-M PRO, and Kingston HyperX blu 4GB DDR3-1333, do you think this will be fair enough for my card ?

You can probably dual/triple GTX 580s and still not bottleneck an i5 2500k. So yeah, you're good for the long run

Edit: also, buy some 1600 ddr3 ram instead. It'll probably only cost you a few dollars more with how cheap the stuff currently is.
