$350 to upgrade... how do i spend it?

Hey guys, i currently have a E5300, EP45-UD3L, and 2gb Corsair dominator that i want to upgrade from to something up to date and more effective. I have $300 to spend and i can push for a tiny bit extra max probably 380. I'm not quite sure what would be best for value. I like gaming a bit, but mainly general use and bragging rights are all i need it for. tongue.gif

I was thinking this but it pushes the budget a bit:
4Gb ripjaws 1600mhz
ASRock P67-PRO
2500k

Anyone have recommendations?

Cheers

Get more out of it if you went to AMD. Athlon II quad, AM3/+ mobo, same ram and most likely a new video card. It all honestly it doesn't matter what route you go, your still going to get mountains more performance then you do now.

Your 4870x2 will literally max out any game out there, so no need for upgrading the GPUs.

If you can wait for a month or two (or maybe three), AMD will release BD. So then is when you should look to upgrade between SB or BD.

If it has to be now, your choice of the 3 aforementioned items seem reasonably good.

Er.. no. No, it won't. I'd like to introduce you to Crysis, Metro 2033, The Witcher 2, Shogun 2, and any DirectX 11 game. They're also hot and power hungry.

OP: Jump on the 2500k. There's no way you'll "get more out of it if you go AMD" period. If you want to wait on Bulldozer, fair, but that's a few months away. I'd say you're quite CPU bottlenecked as is right now. (I have an E5200 @3.6ghz and it can't fully power a 5770, which is about equal to one 4870). Massive performance upgrade.

Your best upgrade right now would be a 2500k cpu and p67 motherboard, Dont waste your time spending $350 on current amd tech until we know how bd will perform,

bulldozer will most likely be more expensive than a 2500k anyway and we can only hope it performs as good

Definitely get yourself a bit more RAM, if I'm right in thinking this is your sig-rig, because your running Win7. If you're not, get yourself some more anyway. It's always nice to have about 4GB of the stuff.
