OCing my HD6950 - stock speeds already high

Hey,

I'm thinking about overclocking my GPU HD6950, but I looked at the GPU-Z and the Memory and Core clocks are pretty high as it is. Do u think any OCing is possible here??

PS: These are the stock speeds I have done no OCing what so ever.

OCing is possible everywhere. The thing is - carefully consider whether you need to OC or not. If you don't specifically need it, don't OC.

Under setting u must enable unofficial overclocking, so that you can go higher than 840 on the core, and 1325 on the mem, thats the max the catalyst control center will allow you.
If you add com vcore (1.2) you can get to 930~960 easily.

Thx man that solved the problem... I totally forgot to do this...

Ok I just found out it cannot be unlocked... unlucky

One last q: what are the dangers of OCing? Assuming I OC the GPU in a correct way according to the guide in one of the sticky notes will there be any decrease of the GPU lifetime or any other negative effect??

Overclocking always has its risks. You're running more voltage than originally intended and the chips were binned to run at those specific speeds. You may get lucky and have one that overclocks great and for a long time. You may not.

I ran mine on 1Ghz / 1475Mhz 1.3v benchmark stable. Now can't get it to 980 without crashing, so its degraded already.

I dunno if it is a problem, but I run some GPUTool tests and got a pretty high temperature at the stock settings (pretty high I think, it might be normal)
Is this an issue? Should I try to OC till the save temp (85 I heard)

Temps are ok.. a little high for stock though. I average in the mid 70's with a 1000 / 1500 OC on 1.22v. But I have a dual fan factory cooler and the HAF 932 helps as well. Although this is not with furmark, just under normal gaming at 99% which counts most for me.
