Thread Starter
hi guys ,

im thinking of upgrading from 4890 to 570gtx , i have q6600@3.2 , 4gb ram and playing @1920x1080
im planning to play the witcher 2 , shogun2 , battlefield 3 and metro .
Is it enough just to change the video card ? and if i wanna use 3d vision is the 570 enough !?
Thanks in advance

Depends on what settings you are happy playing with. Witcher 2 seems to be really demanding, but I would think a gpu only upgrade would be ok as long as you don't expect 60fps at max settings.

You may want to address a platform upgrade at this point IMO

The Q6600 is a great CPU but time has past and the new GPU's will be wanting information faster than your Q can deliver it I am sure, barring some serious overclock.

My recomendation would be to take a close look at the 1155 platform.

2500K, board and some memory can be had pretty reasonably, if you shop around

The AMD platform also presents some formatable solutions as well but not real fimiliar with them personally.

Best of luck

Depending on the budget, probably take a look at 2500K. The gtx570 should do the job. It is about 30w more than 4890. Your 620hx can do 50a on 12v so it still has plenty of power.

Mate our CPUs are getting older. New badboy cards will be asking too much on our CPUs. Save up for a new platform (i'm just waiting for better reason to upgrade) together with a new card if you really want it.

buy GTX 560 Ti SOC or 6870 OC will be better~
but performance by 775 platform Q6600 maybe not enough

I'd say platform upgrade to, especially since I see you have Shogun 2 listed. I had to migrate to Intel to get rid of a major CPU bottleneck during battles. If you don't it's gonna stutter no matter which GPU you use.

As for the single 570 playing 3D, yes it can. Check out the 3D Vision Club first page. A lot of single 570, 470, 480's doing it now. I thought I'd need to SLI my card but I don't yet with current gaming.

I just got mine glasses yesterday. V-sync is always enabled in 3D mode even if you don't turn it on to get the timing of the shutter glasses right. In Crysis 2 I was a steady 50-60 FPS maxed settings. In 2D I get 100-120 FPS on my single GTX 580. Supposedly FRAPS reports FPS per eye so it's right on the money.

Metro 2033 on the other hand maxed I was at 20-30 FPS and when I turned down settings from very high to high with MSAAX4 I got up to 30-40 FPS.

Battlefield 3 though not out will require less juice than Metro 2033, but I'm speculating. No official word on what BF3 will require min.
