You say that you never know when to use potions. WRong. the game nearly always has your medallion vibrate and geralt with say a few different things. This is a notice that you are about to fight something tough. Thats when you are suppose to be sure to pop potions. You also generally are given a chance to pop potions before you engage in what could possibly end up being combat.
The game doesnt hold your hand, and i respect that, The game wants you to think about your actions, whether its Hmm im about to go talk to the enemy im after, perhaps i should pop a potion in case. Its not like there is a lack of resources to create the ones you want.
Except the potion/oil/place of power timer is continuously winding down while talking(a certain pre-fight convo in Chpt 1 had my oils and places of power augments gone by the time combat broke out - I can give other more specific examples if you like)... That is a bad design implementation/oversight regardless of how much you like the game.
Creating potions, while easy enough, is not intuitive. You have to replace the ingredients you wish to swap out each and every time you create a new potion. Oh and you can't create more than one at a time...
|Also if you are getting swarmed in enemies, you are doing it wrong. You can take the skills that allow you to block from any direction and reduce all damage taken during a block to zero.|
Then you also have the ability to put a trap behind you, and use freezing, burning, stunning bombs that effect areas. Toss a burning bomb behind you in a hallway and you cut off enemies from going through it, they wont run through the fire, unless they cant be hurt by it. If you do get surrounded, bust out a freezing or stunning bomb that will allow you to escape.
Like i said, the game gives you the tools to handle every situation, and in many different ways. What it doesnt do is make it easy, or hold your hand.
People complaining about the difficulty, either arent very good, arent using all the tools at their disposal, or arent paying attention.
|The witcher 2 also requires to full playthroughs in order to get the entire story, because your actions will cause you to see and meet different people in the world.|
This discussion is entirely off topic, if you wish to continue let's move it somewhere else.
Forgot to mention, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Still one of my favorite games of all time. Just make sure you get Wesp's latest patch(he's been patching the game for years now). Also, there are some mods to be found on Moddb and planet vampire.
