Third GTX460 or 9500gt for Dedicated Physics

I know that I mite get all the fanboys by posting this here but I wanted to see if anyone had tried it or should I just use my 9500gt I have both extra cards in fact a few more than just those lol, but I just got the new 990FX SaberTooth and I got more room lol, there are open slots and I just in true OCN fashion want to fill them so I have more more more lol!

So the question is I have two GTX460 1GB 256bus running in SLI and I play some Physics based games, not many but every extra FPS helps right?

So I own Extra GTX460 and a 9500GT now the 9500GT doesn't need any extra power to slip it in there where as the GTX460 will (I have a 1200watt PSU but not installed) I would change out PSU and install the GTX460 if it would be a big difference but if it is small I will just put the 9500GT. I don't even know if that would really help ether?? so looking for someone that KNOWS not read about it!!! or wants to tell me just to throw everything out and get the same thing they have!!! so please only respond if you are 100% able to answer with first hand experience Thank you

Dont get another GTX460. But certainly dont use the 9500GT - Its an 8600GT in disguise. A terrible PhysX card. Anything higher than a 9600GT, but lower than a GTS 450, is perfect for your setup.

I'd recommend a GTS250, they are going cheap on Newegg now.

ok did you read the part that I said that I have a GTX460 EXTRA one, and the 9500GT is bad? for physx why? I want to learn why not that one

^This... A 8500GT will just slow you down... You mention you already own another 460? If so then why not...

The 8500GT can't process the physx fast enough, which will slow down the 460's... (their are plenty of threads about this).

Also you may find that 850 is enough for an SLI + dedicated physx 460 setup...

Well then put the extra one in there.

The 9500GT only has 32 shaders- or otherwise known as CUDA cores. PhysX runs off of these CUDA cores - And with so few, it really - and I mean really sucks.

Since you have 'em, you should try each of them ... run some benches, like Batman AA and Mafia 2. See if the 9500 is adequate. As has been shared, it's unlikely that it will be ... it will probably slow down your perf vs. just running physX on your SLI set.

And your 850W is plenty for the SLI 460 + PhysX 460 so you don't have to swap PSU just to try it out.

well I kinda di not want to do that (swapping back a forth) not to sound lazy but I have it all in the case not the test bench and the water loop is filled and fully burped lol, I was hoping for someone that has tried it with both so I can get there results.

I also have OC'ed my system to the max and am pulling close to 725 watts now with all my lights and pump and such so if the GTX460 were to stay I would change just so no ripple in volts under load

Well, then ... don't bother w/the 9500GT. It's too slow for physX, it's been observed by a lot of folks by now that 32 shaders isn't enough for physX when coupled w/anything remotely high-end.

The 460 OTOH is kinda overkill, esp. given how few games actually support GPU-accelerated physX. But if you don't care to sell it, go ahead and use it for physX

725W from the wall only means around 616W (using 85% efficiency) of DC power, leaving you more than enough for a 460 being used as physX on a solid 850W unit like the Quattro. Esp. since physX use doesn't draw anywhere near the full TDP of the card, as you're only using a small part of it's functionality. But I guess if you've got the 1200W unit just laying around ...
