Buy a new one just to be safe. I wouldn't trust that psu.

You need a new power supply, not necessarily because it's a 400W unit or made in China (pretty much all of them are), but because the +12V capacity is so low. That kind of unit was meant for Pentium 4 age power draws.

Your system with a HD 6870 could pull something like 250W in a worst case scenario from +12V. Around 200W in a game may be a more typical figure. That unit claims (in reality, it may be worse) to be capable of 14A on +12V, which is 168W.

That's not to mention potential crossloading issues.

Trash that junk unit, it won't power anything north of an HD5550, and that just barely.

That PSU will not last 2 second with a HD6870. I would go with a good 600 or 650 for some headroom for ocing.

Thanks for reply :-) I solved my problem with a second PSU that powers the graphics card. And i added an old HDD to the second PSU to protect against crossloading the 12V Rail. And its stable,no heat. This is a primary solution until i buy a new PSU

I still wouldn't trust it. There are barely enough amps on the 12V to power that GPU.

My advice: Patience. Get a new PSU first, THEN install the 6870.

And please stick to good PSU brands like Corsair, Seasonic, Antec etc etc.

Plus 24A on the 5V gives indications that its quite an old PSU design, too.

This PSU is a serious crap, dump it, and get a better one, I mean, a branded one, and at least 500W.

Uh, a 400W FSP Aurum AU-400 will handle any 130W CPU and a 6970 just fine...
