Question? - Wine WoW Mouse

Before I get all deep into altering my "/etc/X11/Xorg.con" or messing with Xset I thought it might be worthwhile to ask here as sort of a poll to gather some specific info.

Until very recently I've been playing World of Warcraft through Wine and it worked great...so great in fact that it was smoother than the same box with identical (actually copied onto ext3 partition) WoW install in Win 7. However now suddenly the camera goes crazy whenever I touch mouse buttons. Here's the details.

I have a Razer DeathAdder gaming mouse which I love (all except for the flimsy mousewheel) that has 2 thumb buttons in addition to the normal 3. None of my hardware changed and I don't recall any software changes with the possible exception of a WoW patch that could've happened without my knowledge (being a windows software). So I am first researching if anyone else has experienced this odd behaviour. to suss out if it is just a WoW change or a Wine issue and if I can fix it there instead of resorting to some system-wide alteration.

Any suggestions appreciated regarding WoW or Wine for starters. Thanks in advance biggrin.gif

I have the same mouse... never an issue... but I stopped that old WoW game over a year ago. Been using it for almost 4 years, and it has worked great with every distro and every game. And I love that 5 direction mouse wheel.

I'd try a different mouse, or try using that mouse with a different distro or OS. Make sure it's not the mouse that's messed up.

Also, if you don't mind me asking; What server are you playing on? I've been thinking about going back to WoW myself.

I have DeathAdder 3.5G which works perfectly fine, but I don't game with wine. I dual boot, so I can't really give you any insight to getting it working with WoW. I will tell you that I change the sensitivity and remap the side mouse buttons with xset in order to bind a Mumble push-to-talk key.

Here's the part of my .xinitrc where I use xset:
Code:
# Deathadder Mouse Settings
xset m 1/1 1
xinput --set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "Device Accel Velocity Scaling" 1
xinput --set-prop "Razer Razer DeathAdder" "Device Accel Constant Deceleration" 2
xinput set-button-map "Razer Razer DeathAdder" 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 10 8 9 11 12

Thanks all. Although I am a veteran of troubleshooting both hardware and software, sometimes that can get in the way by doing too much. So far that has not been the case but I appreciate the responses and ideas.

Naturally this is the first thing I tried. It's not the mouse.

I am actually using two different servers. I use Eternal for Cataclysm and Molten for WOTLK. Molten has a queue if you're not a donor but it is worth it. The Vote Point twinking system alone is pretty compelling but bugs are rare and service is quite good. As soon as Molten perfects and releases Cataclysm, I may have to donate and do both there.

Thanks Jimi. I only recently realized that the mousewheel is considered 2 more buttons and don't know why that wasn't just immediately evident but it wasn't to me for some reason. Although I have been using xset for years on acceleration and even have scripts to toggle gaming and desktop, I only recently have had a real gaming mouse, having relied on a really old Logitech mx-510 before it was called a gaming mouse, and somehow missed proper xorg.conf setup thinking a 5-button mouse was only 5-butons when in fact it is actually a 7-button mouse considering wheel. Doh! doh.gif

Incidentally, the Logitech was more rugged than the Razer is as I've broken 2 mouswheels in 6 months on the DeathAdder. They just spin freely to no effect. That said I love the feel of the DeathAdder so much I use it anyway and forgo a wheel altogether except as middle button. kungfu.gif

Back to main thread here, I built a proper mouse section in xorg.conf and popped back and forth between my Studio(K)ubuntu system and my Slack 13.37 system and the problem is not xorg.conf or xset related. It seems a Wine problem that I will confirm this weekend when I downgrade Wine on Slack to the previous version. The only hesitation is that when I upgraded Wine to latest, it worked fine for almost a month before this crazy mouse/camera action started.

Just to try to keep some responses coming in here's the nutshell

All mouse buttons work EXCEPTING that ANY mouse button clicked on open screen cause a fairly random camera jump and character orientation spin. IOW it is impossible to walk/run/fly in a straight line for very long.

I really want to fix this because I REALLY prefer the performance of Slackware over (K)Ubuntu and Win 7 but I want to exhaust fixing Wine before downgrading to previous.

Very interesting .xinitrc, Jimi cool.gif
