Problem installing Ubuntu 11 on 4GB Flash drive

Ubuntu needs at least 4.4GB to install, but my flash drive is only 4GB.
I was following a guide that says you can hack it to install on 4GB by:
1. Run the live CD
2. press alt+f2 and type:
3. gksu gedit /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugins/ubi-prepare.py
4. Then on line 310,
5. change "min_disk_size = size * 2"
to "min_disk_size = size * 1.4"
6. Then run then Ubuntu installer.

So, I pressed alt+f2 and was presented with "boot:" prompt.
Typed in gksu gedit /usr/lib/ubiquity/plugins/ubi-prepare.py. It says that it is not found.
The guide says to use the live CD, but I couldnt' find download for it. All I can get was a install cd, which is ubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64.iso file.

Any thoughts?

the alt+f2 is supposed to be a run shortcut, so it should bring up a white box you type a command to run

sounds like you are switching tty's :/

EDIT: also, that should be the live disc, just when your presented with options at boot choose "try ubuntu" or something like that, and it will take you to the desktop, from where you start those instructions smile.gif

ALSO! there is nice and easy programs to install linux to a flashdrive for you
