Right... Even at the very generous amount of $2 CPM, it would be unprofitable for all parties involved.

This type of model will work for flash games, games from 2003, and terrible indy games that no one purchases anyway. Actual games? Not a chance.

I don't think so, it probably all depends on the amount of advertisers.
If it's just one company, then yeah, it probably would fail.

But say it's like 60-150? Now we're talking.

A low amount of advertisers only puts a ceiling on the amount of revenue that is able to be generated. It doesn't change the CPM.

So they'll just use different targeted ads in certain different games.
The main thing is, more people will see them.

And generate a fraction of a penny per view.

At the generous amount of $2 CPM, a person would have to sit through 25,000 ads to generate the $50 the game would typically cost.

It adds up though.
Tons of people would equal tons of pennies.

Or dollars eventually.

The thing isn't even in Beta yet, let's at least wait to see what happens.

How many people play popular video games? How much do advertisers pay to run in the superbowl. Just for a few minutes... I would think some bs like monster and mountain dew would pay a large sum of money to have a captive audience with their games.

everytime the game is run a new add would probably be played.

its pretty much just like renting a video game from gamefly or blockbuster.

The fun part is, you can start it up, and even if it's 15 minutes long, you can walk away and do something else till then.

Something tells me they won't just restrict it to 'watching videos'. I have a feeling it will be similar to one of those pay-to-click sites and they'll include surveys which you'll have to fill in. Maybe even multiple surveys/videos before a game starts for the more recent games since they will be more expensive at release.
