recommendations for an older

Thread Starter
I'm looking at getting an Intel setup to play with. Seems intel has a lot of OC headroom, and it would be fun to do an older setup and really max it out.
Thing is, all my stuff is AMD, so I don't know what works or doesn't with Intel
Any suggestions on some older intel products I could put together and turn the screws on?
Thinking Socket 775, but there are lots of proc and board options, some that go like crazy and some that don't. What should I look for?

Well if you go LGA75, I can personally recommend a q6600 if you can find one, should be very cheap because there are a couple of Q9xxx that stole the 'overclock's like a beast' crown from it

And I would go with the Asus boards because, imho, I feel they were the most stable and best value boards across the lga775 range

I agree a q6600 is still a powerhouse of a cpu and can be had used for cheap. There are still plenty of 775 boards around, even new so thats no problem, I agree with asus boards just stay away from the asus striker extreme, It is well known for issues other boards are fine.; A p45 chip based 775 board is about the best you can get, But there are cheaper alternatives.
