SuperPi on HWBOT,number of cores enabled matter?

I was wondering what is the rules for scoring on my Athlon II X3 with extra cores and L3 cache enabled.Should it be limited to 3 cores,or should 4 cores and L3 cache enabled be scored as a Phenom?Any clarification would be appreciated.This came up after I noticed the only score higher than my 3 core is a 4 core w/L3.There is no mention in the rules,although I know in other benches core amount is regulated.

I guess there's no difference with how many cores you have, but I guess a unlocked Athlon is scored as a Phenom?

Well this one wasn't(look at link-top score)
Everyone keeps saying SuperPi is single threaded,but all of the testing I have done shows improvement in scores with more cores enabled when the same clock speeds are used.L3 cache also makes a difference.

It is single threaded, try testing the cores by setting affinity to each in turn to find the strongest, should see some difference.

That may account for it,as the difference was not huge,maybe 10 secs.

You usually only want 1x core for Pi [unless your cpu clocks better with more enabled]..but you can lower heat and vcore with only 1x core running..and usually get higher stable clocks for your Pi runs.

Not true.

A lot of times cores 2-6 are stronger than 1, you just have to find which one is strongest and enable it along side core 1.

Windows shuffles threads around, chances are if you have two cores enabled you will have SuperPi on a thread of its own and windows will run other threads on the unused core. Have only one core, and well you are out of luck. Backround processes with just one core running can significantly slow down your times. Besides, differences in cores can be up to 150 Mhz...

interesting.. my best times are always using:

1x core in windows, NUMPROC= 1
priority set- realtime
MaxMEM set- 400-600MB

*and your really just hoping that background process's run on your other available core.. as you cant set priority or affinity on most of those service tasks anyhow.. right?

**as well- heres another example: i7 930- stable for 32mil @
4.68ghz with HT on or off..all 4x cores.. not a mhz more though @ -60c
5.175ghz with HT off, 1x core.. not a mhz more though @ -60c

In that instance/CPU .. you would definitely run 1x core..and have faster time.

Thanks for reminding me,that is what I noted when benching....you need 1 core to cover the OS and any backgrounds,so 2 cores scored slightly higher than 1.

Anyways the real intent of my original question was to find the general thoughts on allowing a Phenom II B40 w/L3 cache to be scored as an Athlon II X3.Not just in this context but in the broader picture also where unlocking is concerned.Even though the core count doesn't matter,the extra core enabled L3 cache.Any thoughts?

Actually for more than half those backround processes you can set priority/affinity...

If my 1100T runs 1M @ cores 1-6 (0-5)

Which core am I going to run it on?...core 3. I will go into the BIOS and disable cores 2,4,5,6 and run SuperPi on what will appear to windows as Core 2 (or identified as Core 01)

Haha you have a Deneb chip in disguise

I'm not exactly sure how that works considering the L3 in Deneb has a large performance increase over Propus
