Colt's Team Fortress 2 Thread

Thread Starter
Hellop guys, for a nice game by Valve and by some sort of boredom, i decided to make a little thread about TF2.

Introduction to TF2 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
team_fortress_2_hires_logo1.png
Team Fortress 2 is a team-based FPS multiplayer game, containing 9 classes to play with to form a team work with the rest of the players on your side.
TF2 is a unique game, it is not attempting to create a realistic shooter environment like rest of the franchises we know (CoD, Battlefield, etc.),
Rather it uses a comedic and funny cartoon-like approach with extreme usage of the Phong shading technique.

A little sneak peek to the graphics (real gameplay footage):
teamfortress2.png
(From left to right: The Heavy, The Soldier and The Medic)
As you can see, the characters have a shiny and smooth look, unlike other FPS games where the player are buffed with tons of camouflage.

The game is focused around two opposing teams competing for a principal objective. These teams, Reliable Excavation & Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU), are meant to represent two holding corporations that between them secretly control every government on the planet.

Teams

RED
300px-Team_red.png
"Reliable Excavation Demolition is a holding corporation, allegedly specializing in "demolition operations". In reality, from behind a myriad of sub-fronts, it secretly controls half the world's governments, led by founder and CEO Redmond Mann. Beneath the convincing exterior of their bases of operations, computer racks, satellites, rockets, and missile installations can be found throughout these bases."

BLU
300px-Team_blu.png
"Builders League United is a holding corporation allegedly specializing in "construction operations". In reality, from behind a myriad of sub-fronts, it secretly controls the other half of world's governments, led by founder and CEO Blutarch Mann."

You may also easily notice the difference between the teams architectural styles.

BLU architectural style

The Classes Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

The Scout
85px-Class_scoutred.png

"The Scout is a hyperactive runt from Boston with a penchant for baseball, grievous bodily harm and running. His speed and ability to double jump will leave slower opponents struggling to keep up."

The Scout primary weapon is a double-barrel shotgun, on the secondary slot there may be either the handgun or a drink, finally the melee slot may have either his baseball bat or other unlockable melee weapon.

The Scout is fastest class in TF2, and his exclusive is ability to perform double jumps.

The main Scout's strategy is to run like a mad man to avoid enemy fire, while dominating close enemies with his shotgun or picking distant enemies with his handgun.

The Soldier
85px-Class_soldierred.png

"The Soldier is a crazed patriot from the heart of America, and the bread and butter general assault unit of the team. Although he's one of the easier to understand classes, he is far from the weakest. Equipped with his Rocket Launcher and 200 Health Points to spare, the Soldier is a highly versatile class for both offensive and defensive roles, and a great starter class to get familiar with the game."

As said, the soldier is the most simple class to start with.
The Soldier's primary weapon is the Rocket Launcher, his secondary weapon is a simple shotgun (replaceable with buff or the Gunboats), and on the melee slot he has a shovel.

The Soldier's exclusive ability is to perform a rocket-jump, a jump assisted by the explosive knock back of his own rockets (with a sacrifice of health points).
The rocket-jump ability allows the Soldier to rapidly pop out from unknown place, and even reach higher altitude that the Scout's double-jump.

The Pyro
85px-Class_pyrored.png

"The Pyro is a mumbling pyromaniac of indeterminate origin, and has a fervent fondness for fire and all things fire-related. Wielding a homemade Flamethrower, the Pyro can set opponents aflame, whittling their health away over time with the ensuing afterburn damage. The Pyro also wears an asbestos-lined suit that protects against any afterburn. Due to the short range of the Flamethrower, the Pyro relies heavily on ambush tactics to catch opponents off-guard."

As said, Pyro's primary weapon is a flamethrower, enabling him to set enemies on fire, even when the Pyro is not attacking anymore, the enemy continues to take damage because of the afterburn.

The Pyro success is heavily relied on ambush tactics catching the enemy without any defense, the Pyro flamethrower is useless against distant enemies.

One of the most vital roles of the Pyro is spy-checking, making the Pyro to have extreme advantage on Spies. (just to mention, as a spy, when is see a Pyro i run like hell)

The Demoman
85px-Class_demored.png
"The Demoman, real name Tavish DeGroot, is a scrumpy-swilling drunken demolitions expert from the Scottish Highlands, and is one of the more versatile members of the team. Though his weapons lack pinpoint long-range accuracy, the Demoman is a powerful if unpredictable asset, and can hold his own in just about any situation."

The Demoman is a pretty advanced and tricky class, the demoman relies on his Grenade and Stickybomb Launcher, his most used tactic is to deploy several sticky bombs, and then remotely detonate them when one or several enemies pass through.

The Demoman can use his grenades in creative ways, firing them at special angles to kill an enemy or blow a sentry gun while staying out of sight.

The Heavy
85px-Class_heavyred.png
The Heavy (calls himself Heavy Weapons Guy) is "towering hulk of a man"
hailing from the Soviet Russia.

The Heavy is the largest and theoretically the most dangerous class in TF2.
By wielding his Minigun, The Heavy is able to tear enemis to pieces from a distance.
With a company of Medic, The Heavy makes a large threat to the opposite team, making it also a noticeable assassination target for Spies and Snipers.

The Heavy is also the only class to reach 300 health points, making his body a defensive tank.

The Engineer
85px-Class_engired.png
The Engineer is a Texan guy with interest in all mechanical things.
The Engineer role is to build 3 machines that aid the team, including a Sentry Gun, a machine thats automatically fires at enemies in range, a Dispenser which replenishes the teammates health and ammo, and also a Teleporter which quickly teleports teammates from their spawn base to the battlefield.

The Medic
85px-Class_medicred.png
The Medic is a nice Dutch guy, his one and only role in the game is to heal his teammates using his Medi Gun.
The Medic has a poor and weak weapons, making him poor chances to survive in direct combat.

The Sniper
85px-Class_sniperred.png
The Sniper, surname Mundy, is Australian guy with a main role, to snipe enemies from long distance.

The Sniper has arsenal of toys to get protected from Spies, and also advantage over Enemy Medics.

The Spy
85px-Class_spyred.png
The Spy is one of the most Advanced classes in TF2, who relies on stealth and trickery to aid his team.
By using his array of Cloack Watches, the Spy can render himself into invisible and quietly sneak behind enemies back, leaving his Knife to quickly assassinate enemies.
The Spy can use his Disguise Kit to render himself as one of the enemies, thats where it finds himself at his most dangerous moments, trigger-happy Pyros are performing Spy-checking around the clock, releasing his flames onto his teammates to check if they are actually disguised spies.

Game Modes Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Capture the Flag
Capture the Flag maps carry the ctf_ prefix, On this gamemode, RED and BLU both hold an Intelligence briefcase located in their Intelligence Room.
The goal of the team is to steal the enemy intelligence and bring it to the friendly Intelligence Room.
Usually, Engineers build a Sentry Gun inside the Intelligence Room to protect the briefcase.

The official Valve ctf maps are: 2Fort, Double Cross, Sawmill, Turbine and Well.

750px-TF2_2fort_map.jpg
"The bridge area" in the center of ctf_2fort, connecting the bases of RED and BLU.

Control Point
Control point maps carry the cp_ prefix, on this gamemode, the goal of the team is to capture and defend control points in a set of time (usually 10 minutes), if a team captures all the control points, they win because the opposite team doesnt have any more points to spawn at.

"The control points are circular platforms with a team-colored light in the center projecting a hologram of the logo of the team currently occupying the point. Control points are typically located on, in or near points of interest."

A RED Control Point
Dustbowl_s2c2.jpg

The official cp_ maps are: 5Gorge, Alpine, Badlands, Desert, Coldfront, Snow, Fastlane, Freight, Granary, Farmland, Well, Industrial and Yukon.
Attack and Defend
One of most interesting and fun game modes, the A&D maps designed asymmetrically, RED begins with all the points in their control, the goal of BLU is to capture all of the points in the given time.
Once BLU has successfully captured a point, the point is locked and not available for capture by RED.

Egypt, my favorite A&D map.
119449.jpg
Territorial Control
Territorial control maps carry the tc_ prefix and are arguably the most complex map type.
Each round a tc_ map plays like small Capture Point with one point controlled by each team, A team wins the round when they control both points.

Hydro, the only official Territorial Control map.
750px-TF2_Hydro_Map.jpg
Payload
"Payload maps carry the pl_ prefix. In Payload maps, BLU team must escort a cart full of explosives through a series of checkpoints and into RED's base within a certain amount of time. BLU team members move or 'push' the cart by standing next to it - the more people nearby the cart, the faster it moves."

pl_goldrush
Goldrush.jpg

The official Payload maps are Badwater Basin, Gold Rush, Hoodoo, Thunder Mountain, Alpine and Upward.
Arena
"Arena maps carry the arena_ prefix and was designed to keep the class diversity of Team Fortress 2 while focusing goals around combat between two teams. Whereas other game modes lean towards a broad, overall strategy for the team, Arena concentrates on the specific tactical choices the teams make in a single fight."

arena_lumberyard
800px-05_lumberyard_1.jpg

The official Arena maps are: Badlands, Granary, Farmland, Lumberyard, Nucleus, Offblas, Ravine, Sawmill, Watchtower, Well.
King of the Hill
"King of the Hill maps carry the koth_ prefix and uses a similar layout to an Arena map. King of the Hill focuses on a single control point at the center of the map, which is locked and neutral at the beginning of the round. Teams must make their way to the Control Point and capture it when it becomes available. Once the point is captured by a team, their team clock will start a three minute countdown. If the enemy team manages to capture the point back, their clock will start counting down while the other team’s clock freezes at the time the point was recaptured."

koth_viaduct

The official koth_ mapes are: Harvet, Nucleus, Sawmill and Viaduct.
