-Power/reset/CMOS reset buttons on the top right side of the board.
-MOSFETs that don't blow up.
-Dual-BIOS.
-10 SATA ports
-PCI-E x1 slots instead of the classic PCI slots.

Since a lot of points have been posted up already, I'd just like to say that I'd improve the VRMs/Phases/whatever for the lower end boards. A lot of people (especially me) run 1 GPU and don't need all of those fancy features that are included with the high end boards, so I'd think it would be great if some of the lower end boards had better durability/reliability.

I don't want to hear complaints about this or that on the existing board (i.e. MSI uses this color instead of that, Gigabyte doesn't have UEFI, etc). Rather, I want to hear about what features you think is missing/lacking from the high end boards.

I'm trying to compile a list of items that users, power users, find valuable.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Alex/MSI
Okay...let me get started.

First...dual NICs. I mean...what kind of "high level" motherboard doesn't have dual LAN built onto the board. Not 1 of the 990FX motherboards has it and it sucks badly. Especially since every other high end motherboard in the past has always had this feature.

SATA ports. I don't know who decided that 6 was more than enough but they need a kick in the balls. 6 is not enough. The highest I can seem to find now though is 8 and it should be 10 to be completely honest. When you look at it from an enthusiast point of view, normally, we'll run RAID 0 on the main OS drives and have a few drives for storage. Well with optical drives using SATA interfaces instead of IDE, that's 2 more ports gone. Out of the 6, you only have 2 left now. I have 4 storage drives that I keep inside my case and now I have to buy a card to do that.

I know you said no crapping about UEFI but honestly, one would expect it at this stage in the game on a high end motherboard.

I've always wanted a 90 degree 24-pin, but I could see the issues with people with smaller cases.

Some 990FX mATX boards would be nice for us small form factor enthusiasts. The lack of quality mATX boards for AMD disturbs me... why does Intel get all the love?

A mATX 990FX motherboard with 8 pin power, 6+2 or 8+2 phase design with 90 degree SATA ports.

And quality onboard audio, not the RealTek crap. The VIA VT2020 is a great audio chipset.

With Marvell or Intel Gigabit LAN.

MSI almost had it with the 890GXM-G65, but the lack of 8 pin power and quality phase design turned me off... but you guys almost have it! Also that was a 890GX board, not 890FX or 990FX... I don't know why you couldn't implement the 990FX on mATX.

And the cool black I/O Shield xD

Bulldozer supports HyperTransport 3.1 (6400 MT/s), but all the 990FX boards I have seen have HyperTransport 3.0 (5200 MT/s).
I have heard the 990FX chipset itself supports HT 3.1. A BIOS update in the future might add it. But why not just add it from the start?

Here's one thing lacking on very high end boards: None of them come "water-cooling ready". I'd imagine most people in the market for high end/top of the line segment tend to watercool their rigs. It would make it several times more convenient if motherboard manufacturers included a motherboard with factory high quality waterblocks pre-installed. This saves a lot of time and effort on the builder's part from having to source water-cooling parts from other places, thus spending more money in the long run. I can see this taking off considerably even in the enthusiast market. And the warranty would be great as well.

I'd also like to suggest an "e-z clear cmos" line that runs outside of your case to where a person wouldn't need to keep getting up and down to reset the cmos. You could just have the button laying right next to your hand and reset when needed. This would be pretty neat.

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the suggestions guys... but again, I asked my question very specific on what feature/functionality is LACKING from high end boards.

I'm well aware of what SHOULD be included on low end boards, but the reality is you're not going to throw 10 power phases on a $150 board. It'll be nice, but the end result is just one single "one size fits all" board and you really have no segmentation in the marketplace.

Then you can also just ask for a CPU that fits every need out there. Easy right? One choice for all consumers.
