Hey Guys,

I ahve recently got into the whole GPU mining scene and have been looking around and most guys with 5870's are getting 400Mhash/s were as im only getting 340Mhash/s.

Now most of them say that to get the 400+Mhash/s they down clocked there mem to 300 mhz

How do I do this without voiding warranty on card

Also, I am using GUIMiner

Thanks a mil guys

Bit late to the party so I apologize if this is a necro.

I've been using MSI Afterburner to do my overclocking. However, the memory clock still only goes as low as 600 mhz. Haven't yet found a way to go down to 300.

What miner are you using? I hit about ~422 mhash/s on my 5870 with a 990mhz clock speed and 600mhz memory. Phoenix (specifically the phatk kernel) has given me about a 5% boost in hash rate over the poclbm miner that is standard with GUIMiner. I get a bit more stale shares, but the increase in performance is still worth it. These are my flags:

-a 2 -k phatk VECTORS BFI_INT AGGRESSION=14 WORKSIZE=256

Hope it works out for you, the 5870 should definitely be able to push higher than 340 mhash/s. Flags make a big difference.

EDIT: AMD GPU Clock Tool supposedly works well for getting memory clock speeds down to 300mhz for mining. Note that if you want to do any gaming after stopping your miner after extended usage you may need to reboot (the video drivers can often crash after running at 990/600 for extended periods of time for me). It won't cause any permanent damage, and in fact will probably extend the life if anything, but keep that in mind.

Disabling Aero in Windows 7 and downclocking the memory to 300mhz from 600mhz has bumped me up to 436.5 mhash/s. Very happy with these results, but I don't see much more room to improve. Stability peaks around 990mhz for my card.
