Thinking of getting a Silver Arrow or D14 but..

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of getting a Silver Arrow or D14 but am not sure if it it would be worth it. I'm currently using a Evercool Transformer 4 with 2 Scythe SY1225SL12SH push/pull. Does anyone know how much better either the SA or D14 would be vs my current cooler. My current CPU temps are 30-32 idle with 45-48 load, Core Temps are 24-27 idle with 45-47 load, according to AIDA64.
Still needs work.

I sent my D14 back. It had a concave base and i was hitting 95c CPU temps. Silver Arrow was £25 cheaper and far more effective at cooling my around 30-40c! Get the Silver Arrow, cheaper and far better made than Noctua. I know many people who have had defective D14's.

My D14 is great. I dont think you will get much better temps than you are currently getting but it will do it quieter.

I have been leaning more towards the SA but I still need to find out how much better it would perform vs my current cooler.

sry but this is bulls...
I have mounted seven D14 and none was defective...on other hand friend of mine had package with 20 TY fans and just 2 of them wasnt making horrible noises and he could use them, other was RMA..

and how can any cooler cool down OCed CPU on 30C? you have 18C in your room? maybe at idle....and 40C is same situation.

I had many noctua products in my hands and never had any issue with it.

im not talking that everybody could go after noctua...but 1 bad experience != SA is far far better

They have a convex base to mate with the concave of the IHS on CPU's.

But when you say many people, that is either pebkac and only 1 or 2 have a real defective product. Or said people don't know how to install a cooler and or using other methods of spreading TIM instead of the way Noctua tells you.

I have the D14 on my 1055T and that is clocked at 3.6 GHz and barely 43 degrees at full load on small FFT's in Prime95.

So I have to question your 4.0 GHz i7 with a temp of 30-40c, maybe at Idle but there is no way your getting that on full load. Idle temps mean nothing.

Also my Idle is 19-20c Core and 25c from the socket.

I've Silver arrow and... its awesome.

H50? Between those two, Silver Arrow. The Transformer isn't a bad cooler, but you will notice a difference. I guess it really matters if your already hitting uncomfortable temps; it might be better to purchase fans with higher static pressure.

These are temps on an i7 quad-core:

I like the SA, but the D14 may be better if you have slightly larger heat spreaders on your ram. If your Mushkins are frostbyte, SA should be fine.

Silver arrow and D14 are basically the same thing.

Get what's cheaper.

No idea what the guys concave base issue was, i think he lapped his CPU and his D14 couldn't make contact.
