Bad 2500k maybe just MB? [Asrock P67 PRO] - Page 2

Yeah its drving me nutz tbh, I was quite excited today to get my aftermarket cooler so that I could start OC ing my 2500k I should have known something would go wrong .

Maybe someone on this forum with the same MB will be able to help or offer some sound advice, do you think its worth posting up in the MB section of the forums or is that just spam on my part?

Yeah i think it is. I've seen quite a few successful overclocks with that board. Is there still time to return it?

It's not the best board, but then again neither is mine.
I have the same board and cpu and I was able to overclock to 4.2ghz without any issues. Have you try to disable "spread spectrum" in the BIOS to see if that fix the issue? I was able to get my 2500k prime95 blend 12+ hour stable using the following.

Anyway, the list of settings are:

CPU Ratio Setting = 42x
Internal PLL Overvoltage - Disable
Intel SpeedStep Technology - Disable
Turbo Boost Power Limit - Auto
Additional Turbo Voltage - Auto
Spread Spectrum - Disable
Core Current Limit - 150 (default)

Voltage Control
Power Saving Mode - Disable
CPU Core Voltage - Fixed
CPU Voltage - 1.265v
DRAM Voltage - 1.5v
PCH Voltage - Auto
CPU PLL Voltage - 1.75v
VTT Voltage - Auto
VCCSA Voltage - Auto

The reason the clock is at 99.8 is due to the setting called spread spectrum, as this happens on my Asrock board as well. Did you enable internal pll over voltage? Chewy suggested this as well but I am not sure if you tried it.

I am not completely familiar with the ASRock BIOS settings, but I would look to see what your LLC is set to. If it's anything like Asus' settings, turn down the LLC to half, or even off. I had a heck of a time figuring out why my motherboard was rebooting for almost 2 months until I discovered that it didn't like being on EXTREME.

Good luck!

I had one of these boards and it seems that many of them have power regulation issues. Here's what I found with mine. For the first week or so it was fine.http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1769765 Then it started crashing. No amount of voltage would keep it stable at 4.6Ghz. Setting everything back to default didn't help. It still kept crashing. I hooked my meter up to it and found that the voltage would remain constant but the wattage would slowly drop until the board crashed. I suspect yours might be doing the same thing and I've seen your issue on other sites. I had to RMA mine to the Egg.

Could be the memory as well, read a few posts from people who have 1.5V rated memory that isn't stable at rated speeds with only 1.5V...
Bumping up the vdimm may help, or lower the mem multi to test it & see if it is stable there.

Try this
CPU Ratio Setting = 42x
Internal PLL Overvoltage - Enable
Intel SpeedStep Technology - Enable
Turbo Boost Power Limit - Manual 250
Additional Turbo Voltage - Auto
Spread Spectrum - Disable
Core Current Limit - 250

Voltage Control
Power Saving Mode - Enable
CPU Core Voltage - offset +0.50
CPU Load Line Calibration - Auto (level 5) this prevents Bsod's when surfing or CPU is not used
DRAM Voltage - 1.5v
PCH Voltage - Auto
CPU PLL Voltage - Auto
VTT Voltage - Auto
VCCSA Voltage - Auto

this works for me at 4.8 GHZ except offset is at +0.90

Thanx for all the replies guys .

To Yetyhunter and Mark123 I used both your setting and on Marks it will boot into Windows but only lasts about 1 min if that and then crashes with your settings Yety I didn't even get into Windows but thanx guys anyway!

Hafwit I had a look for the LLC settings but I can only find the LLC voltage setting with I turned right down and that didn't help it still wasnt stable even with a 4GHz OC.

Nanoprobe the board has been fine on stock so far its never crashed or anything just when I try to OC at all it doesn't like it, I guess it still might it is only a few weeks old. I might send it back tbh.

Im starting to think its just a bad MB or something is wrong because ive tried everything and changed all the settings that you guys have mentioned and its always the same I can get into Windows sometimes I can run prime for 30 odd seconds and then it restarts. .

I still vote for returning the board. You legally have 14 days to get a full refund. Don't decide that you want a refund after 20 days
