Z68X-UD4 doesn't like my SSD :(

Thread Starter
I can't seem to get Windows 7 installed on ONLY my SSD.. The BIOS doesn't say its there, per say - it'll say 2 devices connected (HDD + SSD) in the POST, but it won't let me choose the drive. I've tried it in all the ports and SATA controllers, to no avail.

Can someone help me?

EDIT: Also, it won't show in the OS when booted up - not even in Disk Management.

Have you tried booting up with only your ssd connceted? I had issues trying to install with my raid0 attached.

Also make sure you have your ssd on a Z68 controlled sata port and not a Marvell one.

Yep, I've tried starting it with just the SSD plugged in. I've tried it in every single port. The board knows somethings plugged in - the POST screen says 1 SATA device plugged in, but its not acknowledged in the BIOS. I think I may need to XP model to do what I want.. Or a BIOS update? I'm on F6 BIOS right now.

Right sorry, didn't see you'd said in your original post that you'd tried all the ports. I'd recommend to keep it on a Z68 one, Marvell doesn't seem to like ssd's much.

Not sure if you'd need a bios update, different model but my z68 board is on F6 as well, and didn't have issues with my ssd.

If you start the Win7 setup with only the ssd attached, does it show the drive? Any errors?

It doesn't show anything in the Win7 setup. Do you have the RAID X thing enabled?

So it doesnt detect the drive at all in Win7 setup?

My Z68 sata is set to ahci, to which my ssd is attached, my raid is on Marvell which I setup through the gsata raid setup in bios.

I can't see why you're having problems, hopefully someone else knows something I don't.

The drive should just detect and you should be able to just select and install to it in Win7 setup as normal.

Only thing I can think to suggest is load bios defaults, and try a different sata cable, else it seems something is up with the ssd.

I'll try it with another of the myriad of SATA cables I have lol
