i worked at best buy for 4 years and moved all around the store. i started out in the media department selling dvds and games and systems then after a year was moved to full time and offered a job in computers. i worked there for the remaining 3 years and became friends with a lot of the geek squad guys....now i will tell you my experience...

the managers at best buy force their employees to sell service and stuff like that in order to get their monthly bonuses and the like. Lets face it...best buy makes a killing off of that stuff, and depending on your store type its usually required. when i first went to computers it was "try and sell some service, and have fun" after 6 months it turned into "if you dont sell service, im going to scream at you" and thats what would happen...we tried and tried but people jsut dont want to fork out 150 dollars for antivirus install and cleaning or 200-400 dollars for service plans or accidental plans. They charge 50 dollars for memory installs and to update a ps3.

now i understand that not everybody i meet is going to know about computers or take care of them the same way or know how to use them, or know how to avoid getting virus's and spyware all over their pc's...i know this....but the managers didnt care. i watched as a manager got into an argument with a guy over a geek squad service plan he was trying to sell him. The guy was a comp science engineer working for the university and knew what he was talking about. i was talking to him for a good 45 minutes about some of the newer graphics cards...he knows his stuff....but no matter what the guy said, the manager basically insulted his intelligence because he didnt want the service.....

i had to leave best buy December of that year because i couldnt take the constant manager greed, the constant garabe they were feeding us...it was almost insulting....morally i couldnt keep telling people the sales pitche garbage we had to deal with....seriously...and ontop of that some of the geek squad guys know less then some customers which i found funny. Our geek squad manager at the time got into an argument over an IDE drive with a customer saying that he took the IDE cable out of the computer so they couldnt replace it through the warranty....the computer was a new gateway and at that point we hadnt sold an IDE hard drive computer in years....it was SATA and everything was plugged in fine...the guy didnt even know how to reset an Ipod and he was a manager!??! yea...see ya BB

as for newegg..thank you for pretty much slapping the idiots at BB......they deserve this

To be honest, America as a whole deserves it b/c people are more concerned with price as a bottom line over service 99/100. This is why Best Buy is here and Circuit City is in the ground. Its why Wal-Mart is king despite selling a whole store full of chinese sweat shop merchandise. This is why big banks rule while stealing every dime they can from you.

I worked as a GS agent for 2 years. Prior to that, I was a tech supervisor for CC. At CC I charged less, did it faster, had fewer automated tools, and I spent MONTHS training my sales people, while in training, they weren't allowed to answer a question they weren't 100% sure on without asking me or one of my other techs. If I caught them outright lying to a customer, knowingly, they were written up for it. 3 write ups, fired.

Despite the draconian level of control of my people and training, and despite charging less and doing less volume of business, my local store beat the local BB on volume of services done right up until the company died. We were the second most profitable store in the company. If we could have continued on under a differant name, we would have done so happily.

I think that's another reason we all hate Best Buy, we apply for a job there and out of anyone else they choose to hire the idiots that they actually have to put through training about computer parts.

I mean the job is basically this: sell as much crap (accessories) to the customers as we can. Would it not make sense to hire computer enthusiasts who spend their free time and money on those things?
That's funny; I told them I build computers and Best Buy wanted me back the next day for another interview. I suggest you stop blaming other people for your poor interviewing skills, especially when it's obvious that you know nothing about the company or who they like to hire.

I used to love Bestbuy as a child lol, go and play the demo games and look at the dvd's/music run around like crazy.

Last time I did that the game called ONI was the hottest thing out (at least the hottest thing they were pushing) This was all before I had discovered OCN though...

Havent been there since
