gtx 570 with a 9800gt secondary non sli card problems

Thread Starter
i just got my GTX 570 last night to upgrade from my 9800GT, and swapped them out, got everything working and played a little CoD: black ops and batman : arkham asylum. was very happy. so today i put the 9800gt back in to run my second screen, maybe do rendering/ transcoding, and just to have a second card. But when i booted up windows my gtx 570 show as eiether 51MHz or 405 MHz and my 9800 gt show as 301 MHz. none of those are correct, i dont know if the 9800 gt is just messing with the sensors or if its actually lowering the speeds of everything. pulled the 9800 gt out and the gtx 570 speeds stay normal at the correct 732 MHz. is it possible to run the second card thats different then the primary card or do i need to get another gtx 570?

If you put two cards in your system both cards will run at x8 x8 im pretty sure this has something todo with it. Especially because your not running SLI

the 570 is in the first x16 slot and the 9800 is in the third x16 slot with nothing in the second so it should be running and x16/x0/x1 according the the motherboard user guide.

It seems OK to me.

When the 9800GT is installed and the 2nd monitor is connected to it while the 1st monitor is connected to the GTX570, the GTX570 can downclock from its 3d clock (732) to 2d clock (405) and idle clock (51) when it is not under load. This is normal. Auto downclocking is a desirable feature as it saves energy. It only becomes a problem if it gets stuck at a lower clock when the card is stressed.

When the 9800GT is removed, both monitors are connected to the GTX570. As such, the GTX570 cannot downclock itself at all. It always remains at 732MHz.

And, the 9800GT idles at 300/301MHz. It should shoot up to its 3d clock (600 IIRC) when it is under load.
