Best motherboard for X4 975?

Thread Starter
Hey, I'm trying to build a gaming pc on a tight budget and I think I'm going with an AMD X4 975 but I don't know which motherboard to choose. I'm looking for a slight overclock and the possibility of running crossfire sometime in the future. I'm going with a XFX HD 6870 and will choose the other components after the motherboard. Any Thoughts?

Wait, for a 1000$ I would definitely go Intel. This is the top of the line gaming build that can handle pretty much any SLI/CF.

2500k + Asus P8P67 Pro
Samsung F3 + Corsair TX850 V2 PSU
G.SKILL 4gb 1600 cas 8 1.5v ram
Total for this comes to 600$
Lets say you spend another 100$ on case,
That leaves you with 300 on graphics card.

If you want to try AMD, then wait for Bulldozer (coming in the next month or two) as the Phenom IIs are REALLY old. If you decide to go AMD anyways, make sure you get a board that can be updated to support Bulldozer. Also I would stick with the 955 to save some cash as a temp, and you can easily OC the 955 to the 975's clock.

id also say if you really want AMD, you can wait for BD that will be out ina a month or two like what omega said.

but if you really want to build now, id suggest just get a 955be, am3+ motherboard, 1866mhz ram so once BD launches, you can just upgrade the processor.

id also recommend getting a good PSU and case since that two components will be around for awhile even after you upgrade to another generation products

Good build, but I would swap out that p8p67 pro for a gigabyte z68 ud4 or p67 ud4, the p8p67 pro still seems to be having issues.
