EVGA GTX 460 SLI Cooling?

Thread Starter
I have an MSI P55-GD80 motherboard and the two useable SLI slots are very close together. I am wanting to throw in a second GTX 460 768MB Superclocked and go SLI but I am worried about the temps. Currently my one card idles at about 37-40C and 60-65C under heavy load. Am I going to need to worry about temps with a second card in there? My case is a Coolermaster Elite 334 if that helps. Also what should I set my fan speed as. Currently using MSI Afterburner I have it set for the temp to be the fan speed (eg. 64 degress sets fan at 64%)

How did you mount the delta fans? My case has a built in front and back fan and thats it.

They will be fine. If you have any space to put in more intake cooling, then that will help. Push as much cool air into the case and into the heatsinks, that will push the hotter air out.

Edit: Looks like you could put a fan in the door

Hmm, maybe I need a case upgrade then. This is my case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119199

If I do keep my current case you think it wont get to hot. Ambient temps will usually be about 70F

With sli your temps will jump quite a bit, don't be surprised if you top card is 20 deg warmer than on its own. These cards can run up to 105C degrees before they even shut themselves down to prevent heat damage.

If you can manage to keep them below 75 that is great and wont hurt them at all.

Apart from that, if you can manage to fit a case fan to blow between the two cards out the case, that is you best bet for cool temps prior to water cooling. Scythe Kaze 1900rpm with 110cfm of airflow are perfect for this.

change psu first...alredy lucky that this thing didnt blow up yet. i dont say to go get a corsair 80+ gold but just a small cooler master Silent pro or something not too bad.

haha, everyone hates on this PSU but its ran my system for 8 months now but that is good news if they can take up to 105C. I'll look into some fans, a PSU, and I might do some case mods. Thanks for the help guys.

Well, they CAN take 105c but surely it won't do any good so you wanna avoid hitting 100c. Try to keep them under 90c for longevity
