Help, GTX 480 SLI or QUADRO 4000???

I'm really confused which graphics card to use for both gaming and 3D rendering in 3DS Max/Maya. nvidia advertises that a Quadro will work with these programs better and I have seen users use this card for gaming with not the best FPS. Then I hear others say a GTX 580 SLI can handle 3D programs just as well now too.

I like to play games at max and render in 3D, help, which should I use with my i7 980x cpu?

Edit: 580 SLI, not 480

Which do you do more? The Quardo is way faster in rendering, but the 480 is much better in games.

I like to do both, Render and play games. Opps, it should be 580 SLI, not 480. would that mean I need to do a 580 SLI + Quadro 4000 too?

The 580's do not work nearly as well with Max or Maya. They are gaming cards not production. Some of the best gaming cards no less. The last benchmarks I saw were with Maya 2009 and the quardo destroyed the 480s(best at benchmark time). Modeling is where it is at. You can hide millions of polys while gaming. You can work with millions with a quadro 4000.

For what it's worth, I run my sig in Direct 3d with 3ds Max.. still cant model in dx11 without issues..

If you're doing heavy modeling, there's no question go with the Quadro. If your modeling doesn't get extreme, the 580 SLI (go with 3GB version to help with modeling), is a solid bet with a huge boost in gaming performance.

Yes, I'm going to do heavy modeling and rendering with Maya and Zbrush. But I wonder now if you can combine the GTX 580 with a Quadro 4000?

Another reason I figured out why GTX cards are no match for Maya/Max rendering is due to their low GPU memory. In case anyone is reading this, you can see a comparison chart between the GTX 580 versus a Quadro 5000 in this chart. Everything seems to match in specs, except the memory and of course using different drivers to download.
