Need Advice on Video Card

Thread Starter
I want a discreet video card for my HTPC. Nothing too fancy but I am tired of it stuttering every time there is a lot on the screen. The only gaming done on this system is SIMS 3.0. I bought the i30539 because I thought the integrated video was capable of a lot more but every time I stream and there's a big explosion where it has to render a lot it almost pauses and takes a while to catch up.

Here's the kicker... There's only 150W power supply in the system. Here's the specs:

2 Scythe S-FLEX SFF80B 80mm Case Fan

Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9160412AS 160GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Intel BOXDH57JG LGA 1156 Intel H57 HDMI Mini ITX Intel Motherboard

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-2GBNQ

Intel i3-530

Antec ISK 300-150 mini-ITX case
Power supply 150-watt power supply
Expansion Slots 1 half-height expansion slot

So my biggest thing is going to be power consumption. The cards I'm looking at are:

AMD Radeon HD 5450
Nvidia Geforce GT220
Powercolor Silent Radeon HD 5750
SAPPHIRE 100321DDR5OCL Radeon HD 6450 512MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready

Thoughts?

There are some low power 9800gt's floating around. Pailt and PNY makes them. They run off the 75watt given from the pcie slot.

the 5450 or 6450 would work, though I'd go with 5450 cause it's cheaper. I wouldn't bother using the gt220 and the 5750 will draw too much power

On the other hand, the i3 530 integrated graphics should work fine. I have it in my HTPC also, only difference is I have 4 GB of RAM. Could it be your network? Does the pausing happen if the file is on the local hard drive? A new graphics card isn't going to help if it's a network issue.

I would second the 5450. Even a 4350 with hdmi out would work.

This.
The ATI cards are low power (like 20w max, even lower for most video playback).
A 220 is around 55-60 w max.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to go with the 5450. It seems to have the most reviews and most promise. Thanks! I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Try to get a 5450 with active cooling (fan). I had issues with a 5450 that was passively cooled. Catalyst control center would occasionally decrease the clock to keep the temp down...
