If you're using the CM Hyper 212+ as noted in your sig, you shouldn't use any of those methods that was pictured for you. The Hyper 212+ is a direct heatpipe cooler that requires a very different way of applying TIM.

^I ended up using the horizontal method. Oh well.

Well guys, I ended up finishing in about six or seven hours. I turned it on and all the fans started spinning... keyboard doesn't work BUT THat's okay it didn't explode.

When you drop the processor in the socket, wiggle the processor in the socket. You should feel the processor in the socket snugly.
