Graphics card suggestions needed: i7930@4.0 700w PSU - Page 2

700w is good for any single card out there and the 590s/6990s with overclock room. You'll only need to upgrade if you decide to go SLI-Quad-SLI. You need to understand that most of these PSU watt calculators are very off and tend to calculate the wattage pulled from the wall. Most quality PSUs have 80%+ efficiency so you deduct your efficiency from the amount pulled from the wall and when you calculate that you actually are using a lot less than you may initially think.

@Doogiehouser Seeing you running the gtx580 on a 750w makes me feel a bit better as well

Best price I have found so far is here although I'll probably hold out for a different brand, I remember Diamond but have heard horror stories as well.

750w and a 580 is actually a bit overkill even. I could have settled with a 600-650 and still be perfectly fine with overclocking and headroom to spare. Main reason I got the 750 was because it was slightly rated higher in efficiency.

In regards to the graphics card, if it's a reference card then you shouldn't have any issues as they are the same card as every other reference card out there, just a different brand sticker on top. Just make sure you get a decent warranty and have decent enough customer service, as they do differ between brands and you should be good-to-go. With that said, every brand have their own horror stories to be honest.

was mostly my worries. I'll hold out for either the Powercolor w/ EK block or the XFX

would love to put the Powercolor into my loop as I'm sure the loop is more then enough to cool it.

A good 700W is more than enough for one graphics card. Another member here had a overclocked GTX 580 and overclocked i7 @ 4.0 GHz+, and it only pulled 378W from the wall.

bump for any thoughts on which 6990 to choose

*well my psu died I'm not sure or blaming the specific model for the downtime just sharing facts. I'm going to be purchasing a new one for testing to see what specific part failed and will post with results.
