i7 2600k oc, high temps? - Page 3

Did you put on to much thermal paste maybe? With the Noctua thermal paste your suppose to put a super thin coat on.

Idle temperatures mean absolutely nothing. The diodes used in measuring temperatures are based off of a maximum threshold temperature which are only accurate at load.

@OP: Your temps are fine for air, and you have a good working voltage for 4.8Ghz. Dust has some really good suggestions if you are concerned with everyday tasks giving what you feel are still too hot of temps. LLC is easily a good 3-5 degrees off at the cost of a possible bsod which can be circumvented by adding a hair more vcore. In my experience, the extreme setting on the Deluxe tends to put WAY too much voltage on the chip, adding to the heat.

Idle temps mean ****. The temps he is getting are 100% normal for air. I hit about 59 under water on 1.42v so, thats with a custom loop and 72F ambient.

Regarding your max voltage, as far as we now all SB chips have different max voltages:
- Go into bios, disabel Load line Calibration.
- Raise the Vcore to 1.52.
- Enter a overclock (multiplier over 45) BCLK 100.

When you enter windows notice the idle voltage in Cpu-Z, then fire up Prime95 and run Small FFT's, the voltage will drop very much under load, probably to 1.38-1.41, the voltage you get here is your's chip max recomended voltage. You will have to stop the prime when you have seen the voltage drop, on air you will most likely hit close to 100c if you leave it on for a long time.
