Battlefield 3 GPU - Page 2

are there any pros reading this that know about games performance hits?

EG. destructable buildings - does this mean that the game will require lots of video memory?

Huge maps - i know battlefield 2 has massive maps, absolutely freajesusing massive compared to cods, does this mean the game is going to need a lot of ram?

i want to see this game at its best without spending heaps of money on it, im wondering what upgrade i would benefit most from out of these...

cheap graphics card for for physics maybe (for falling buildings?)
maybe a gigabyte GT430 OC 1GB

more ram, from 2x2gb kingston hyperx 1600mhz to 4x2gb

cpu cooler, maybe cooler master v8 - get my cpu to around 4.5-5ghz

or maybe an SSD to install the game on

what do you guys think?

I'd say a GTX580. Get something with a nice cooler. You'll need all the horsepower you can get to run max setting at 1080p. Look into a PSU too.

EDIT: Seeing as this is in the AMD section then get the 6990.

If by pro you mean "I tried to ram a stick of RAM into a PCI slot when I was 8", then I am here for you.

But seriously OP, if you are on a budget, get 2 6870's and crossfire them. They have very good GPU scaling and I am almost positive they will be able to max out BF3. 2 6870's shouldn't cost you more than $400. My 6870 cost me $180 brand new, and TFII's rule .

Instead of worrying about it now why not just wait and see?
As for my guess I think any high end graphics card either 6970/6990 or 580/590 in Crossfire or SLI will kill BF3.
If they cannot handle the game then what can? Is there going to be a new set of GPU's out by october?
If you had to pick just one card to use without CF or SLI. I think the gtx 580 will be the best pick over the 6970 but thats just me.

I think Southern Islands is coming out in Q4 2011 (At least that's what my uncle told me, and he works for AMD).

IF we learned anything from BFBC2 its that is cpu hungry, especially on multiplayer, the cpu OP has a great cpu, though I will say if he wants the extra backbone and future proofing for other unreleased unaware of games it may be time to get the 2500k

If your on a budget then take a cander at our marketplace, theres usually always killer deals there

Personally I don't think BF3 will need much more then the current high end cards to max out the game. It may need them Crossfire/SLI to totally max the game out at 2560x1600. But I think the game will be Far more optimized then BBC2 was.

Well the gameplay/trailers runned with single GTX 580 / Sandy Bridge. So just get GTX 580 and you are set. BF3 also aint some regular console port, so it actually uses PC power

I have parts for my new rig (2500K & 2x 580 SLI) en route to my house as we speak, should be here any minute

I think I should be good for BF3

I don't know about you guys, but I play BC2 with everything on Low and enjoy it just as much as when it was on High. I'm set for BF3
