New to OC - Q8300 Help plz

Thread Starter
Been reading up for quite a while on all this but i need some direct help now.
Never OC'd before so bear with me

I have Q8300 @ 2500 in a packard bell machine frown.gif
Having a look on the bios there is no advanced options to change any settings as i am guessing its all locked. Was wanting to OC to around 3.0 to help a new GPU i was wanting (GTX 560ti)
Can someone advise me if its possible and walk me through abit smile.gif

Unfortunatley no. You have to buy a new motherboard if you want to OC.

Get a cheapo p35 or p45 mobo for LGA 775 and you're good to go. Mind you. You need a mobo with a decent FSB capability, cus the multi will limit the overclock.

Ah balls ok then, this mobo is micro atx could i even find a decent micro atx?
Ill probably just wait for an upgrade and learn from the mistakes of buying built brands
post #5 of 25
Yeah theres loads of reasonable micro atx board.

you could do depends when your gonna upgrade etc,
if you got a reasonable mobo and a new graphics card your rig would probably be alright smile.gif.

E- your 560 is alright smile.gif
just get a decent mobo.

Ok then so what exactly should i be looking for in a new mobo

Micro ATX, LGA 775 Socket, anything else?
So i idealy would want a mobo with an FSB limit higher than my processors 1333 ? which is so i can OC better?
Also if i got one with DDR3 would that complicate things
would it be a case of just swapping all components round and switching on or is there more to it than that?
not really just a reasonable board with good reviews.

depends if you already have ddr3, if not then you will need to buy some ddr3 memory.

yeah you will be able to OC higher,

yep just swap everything over smile.gif.

You don't wanna do that perhaps you have heard of these motherboards frying mainly MSI thats what happens when you buy cheap gotta have a decent board with good VRM setup.

Don't believe me? see here

Have DDR2 atm just though it would help some more, although i cant find any with more than 1333 supported FSB
post #10 of 25
Yeah fast DDR2 is pricey DDR2 is being replaced with DDr3 so it cost more.
