New to OC - Q8300 Help plz - Page 3

I would personally go with the asus one if it had to be between those two.

J!NX is right by the way; neither of those motherboards clock well. With the asus you can only overclock by raising everything and by that I mean voltages and frequencies. The first limiting factor would be PCI express x16 bus clock and then the ram voltage. Newer graphics cards are very sensitive to PCIe bus clock (100mhz at stock). Anything above 105MHz is a risk!
For the ram, the voltage starts at 1.5v and while you overclock it goes higher. Thus the more voltage tolerable ram the higher the overclock you will get; again with a respect to pci express bus clock and consequent voltage increases to vPLL and vVTT.
If you do decide to go for that you will need ram that runs at least 1600MHz at 1.65 volts with the lowest timings possible (preferably).

Overclocking capabilities are very, very limited with a high risk of hardware failure.

Not sure what that has to do with mobo prices but ok.

Never OC'd before so bear with me

I have Q8300 @ 2500 in a packard bell machine
Having a look on the bios there is no advanced options to change any settings as i am guessing its all locked. Was wanting to OC to around 3.0 to help a new GPU i was wanting (GTX 560ti)
Can someone advise me if its possible and walk me through abit

SPECS: http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/m...nshot/cpuz.jpg
Bad VRM's = no to limited overclocking. Quality MB have better VRMs thus being more pricey

Unless you're going to use an EP45 UD3 board, I wouldn't expect much from a Q8 series. Even less so from a microATX board, I'm not aware of any that can clock well.
