Giving out bank details? - Page 2

I would use PayPal, by giving the routing and account number an automatic repeating debit can be set up and it would take money out of your account every month without your permission.
And the bank can't stop this.
This has happened to me by someone watching my house while I was in medical treatment.
They looked at my checkbook, got the routing and account number and set up an auto debit every month.
I was paying for 6 family's dental plans that they were selling to people.

USE PAYPAL

I agree. Never give out your bank account information unless you absolutely trust who you're giving it to.

nah he didnt want the credit card number, just the sort code (6 digits), account number (8 digits), and a name to send it to.

You do this every time you write a check.

Well, that's basically the details needed to do a bank transfer. Then again, if you're not comfortable giving it out then don't. Paypal's quite easy to use anyway and when you get payment as a gift you get all the money without getting charged. biggrin.gif

With a routing and account number from a checking account along with a merchant id they can transfer out after depositing in. Or at least that's how I do it.

You need to find a new bank. Your bank should be able to stop ANY and ALL transactions to or from your account.

People seem to have some strange aversion to PayPal. Don't quite understand why.

When I've had issues in the past with Ebay/PayPal, PayPal has always come through for me. They even reimbursed me twice accidentally for £100 and nothing ever came of it biggrin.gif

Do whatever you possibly can to keep your credit card details safe. If you are going to sell an item, maybe withdraw your money and empty out your bank so if someone tries to steal anything, you can be sure your money is safe and you can just cancel the card.

Only a suggestion. I've never used my credit card details online, ever.

Routing and account numbers are at the bottom of every check you write. Somebody could deposit funds with those numbers, but couldn't withdraw.
