would be nice if nintendo would stop making awful controllers for every new system. From the n64 to Wii U they have all been really bad and ugly looking.
I liked the n64 controller. I think the wiiu will probably be around 650-800 truthfully. Wii came out at 249$ but it was already behind in technology. I can see this console launching at a 600$ tag and dropping before the next gen of others in effect making it seem like the cheaper option once again. Truthfully those next gen consoles from sony and microsoft are gonna be the real sticker shock imo. I paid for a launch PS3 and 360, if ps3 launched at 599 at a loss I cant imagine what the next gen will be

Once upon a time, vibrating controllers were considered gimmicky. Nobody complained about the Dreamcasts' controller with screens on them.

Everyone knows Microsoft basically ripped off the Dreamcast controller for the Xbox 360. The analog trigger buttons were ripped off the Dreamcast.

I grew up playing with Ataris and Coleco Visions. I suppose these new school guys who think 360 is where gaming began do not know much.

Of course the WiiU will be over $500. It could push past $600 retail price.

Nintendo broke the gamer market segment with the Wii. Since this will also be backwards compatible, early adopters will most likely not be hardcore gamers, but adult/older families who got hooked by the Wii wanting something new. The Wii was purchased by so many people that would never own a conventional gaming system like the xbox or playstation. This puts it as a soccer mom status symbol.

And to those who don't want to buy it out of consideration of price, it's clear Nintendo doesn't care about you.

It's not going to be cheap, but I don't think it will be as much as some of you think. The controller is not a stand alone tablet that renders graphics. It has to be near the console which streams the video signal over wifi. Touch screens have gotten cheap now-a-days and there is no cutting edge hardware in the console. Nintendo wants eveyone to think, "oh it's a tablet and a console it's going to be so expensive" so when the pricing is released they think it's a good deal. My guess is around $350-$400.

I'm thinking this thing will be about $400. Which isn't too unrealistic if it's hardware is only supposed to be slightly better than the current 360/PS3. That means they're still using older hardware, right? Which means that it really shouldn't be that expensive to produce.

The controller shouldn't be that expensive either, it's just streaming the video, it's not processing anything. I do not think the screen will be too expensive, since it's not even multi-touch according some hands on report I read earlier.

In other words, it will be expensive for a Nintendo console, but it's not going to be in any of the ridiculous price ranges mentioned in this thread. $700 for a console, I haven't heard an idea that insane since the 3DO.

There is the problem.

Fanboys pay $600 for a PS3 that can't keep up with the XBOX 360 and has a self-melting Blu-ray drive, or $500 for a XBOX360 that burns itself down, but won't pay $400 for a Nintendo console.

Because Nintendo has players rather than fanboys.

I guess they're going to do several versions of the machine, one coming with a bigger storage, another one coming with two controllers, and so on.

Otherwise it's not gonna reach the masses until price drops.

Err ...that is not a problem . It is their money and maybe it is their opinions and preferences as well ?

No ? hahahahah who am I kidding other people have nothing like that , never ever .

Too bad this console will be dragged down to PS360 level , like the PC , when it comes to multi games , but I think the exclusives will be worth it .

Like some one above said : Nintendo gotta stop with the rehashes , because I would kill for a Dark Zelda , Pokemon Shin-Megami-Tenshi-style ( Not like spin offs like persona ) with dark , gritty monsters with mature designs ...

sigh , I can only dream because thats not going to happen ...
