HTPC Remote with Keyboard

Thread Starter
I was looking at the Lenovo Multimedia Remote but the biggest downsize is it doesn't have a backlit/illuminated keyboard so it would be pointless since I mostly use my HTPC to watch movies at night with all lights off.
I also found this Rii Mini Wireless keyboard with touchpad and think it would fit me but I still need suggestions.
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Rii-Wireless-Keyboard-Touchpad-RT-MWK01/dp/B003UE52ME"]Amazon.com: Rii Mini Wireless Keyboard with Touchpad (RT-MWK01): Electronics[/ame]

Are there other alternatives?

I have a normal pc media remote which I use while I am watching movies (things like pause, rewind, or navigating xbmc), and then I recently got [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002H0BOBA"]this[/ame] which I LOVE. It has a mouse ball and scroll wheel built in, and I honestly haven't missed the backlighting because I only use it if I want to show a video on youtube to friends that are over, so it's usually not dark.

I just built my first HTPC and got the newer RII mini keyboard, seen here:

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Superior-Wireless-Removable-Connection-Adjustable/dp/B004I4SSCQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1307740569&sr=1-4"]Amazon.com: Superior Loftek Rii Touch N7 Mini Wireless Keyboard 2.4 Ghz Super Long Range (30m Max) Removable Battery Htpc Ipad with Connection Kits Full Qwerty Keyboard Adjustable Dpi Touchpad for Pc, Apple, Xbox360, Ps3: Electronics[/ame]

I love it! I've only used it for about 3 days, but so far so good. It is responsive, comfortable (though I have larger hands), and it has a backlight. And, you can rotate the touchpad's direction (for using like you would a typical remote).

Go with it, you wont be disappointed. I searched for 6 months and this one looked the best to me.

It is backlit, has a trackpad, and is sweet.

When you say tricky you mean it's not really responsive? Also I don't see it has backlit which is tough for me to bite on it.

As I did mention I'm gonna use it in a completely dark environment that's why the backlit is really important to me, rather than that it's a nice keyboard.

I'm actually looking into that now and compare to the Rii above I don't know which one should I go with. Is it easy to navigate on the touchpad since I mainly use the mouse function?

Thanks for the recommendation but maybe I should have make it clear I would prefer something that around $50 or so. tongue.gif

Hey I am in the same boat. I want to pick up a remote/keyboard for my dad for fathers day with illuminated keys since the lenovo fell short. I looked at the dinovo but it seems as soon as they are put on sale on the forums they are snatched up. $120 is pricey for the mini keyboard seeing as it was sold on amazon back in march for $87 with free shipping. It seems a lot of these off-brand manufactures don't make very solid products. The rii touch posted above looked great but it seems a lot of people are having dpi issues with it after the 30 days have expired. That wont work for us since it is going to be used on a 55" tv. Please let me know what you choose.

This keyboard is awesome for HTPC use:

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11489/kbd-115/Saitek_Eclipse_Wireless_Illuminated_Litetouch_Keyboard_w_LCD_Touch_Media_Panel_Windows_7_Windows_XP_XP64_Vista.html#blank

For one of my htpc's, i still use the mx5000 combo, but this thing works way better in low light. The mouse works decently enought to navigate, but I pair the KB with a windows media center remote, which is also backlit.

After reading reviews, I rule out the Rii remote due to the problem with the trackpad, which I'm gonna use most of the time than the keyboard.
I missed out the deal on the diNovo for $80 so I now consider this keyboard, have heard great reviews so far:
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040QE998/ref=s9_simh_gw_p23_d0_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1KVP6JEJDQXFY1S8BJA6&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846"]Amazon.com: Logitech Keyboard Controller for Logitech Revue and Google TV: Electronics[/ame]
EDIT: Scratch that, it's not backlit, guess I'll just go with the mini diNovo then.
