Building a gaming rig

Thread Starter
Having been raised on macs, my experience with computer gaming has been somewhat limited, and after seeing so many titles that I want on windows, I've decided to bite the bullet and just build myself a gaming PC. Unfortunately I really don't know what to look for; particularly when trying to choose a motherboard, or weighing up price vs performance of GPUs. So I figured my best bet was just to ask people who: a) know what they're talking about and b) aren't trying to sell me something! I'm planning on hooking it up to my Samsung HDTV, presumably through HDMI, dunno if that makes a difference. My budget is ~£350 ($550) though I could go up by £50-100 if it'd make a real difference in performance. Thanks for reading, hope you can help!
