Laptop with Geforce 310M

Hi, I recently bought a laptop with the grapics card Geforce 310M which I, at the time, believed was a fairly good graphics card. As I understand, it is not. What I want to ask is two things:

1. How come that i ALWAYS fail in nearly all modern games on www.canyourunit.com because my GPU does not have "Hardware T&L"? The website is analysing the "Intel(R) HD Graphics" which i believe is a built-in graphics card. How do i make it analyze my 310M. Is it actually analyzing both GPU's or just the crappy built-in one?

2. If the 310M really is that bad, is it possible to change the GPU to another, more powerful one?

Thanks!cheers.gif

EDIT: And how is it compared to ATI Radeon HD 4700?

1.You should have posted you Laptop's name, but I suppose it's an Optimus-enabled, and here is your "problem". Due to poor coding on that specific site, it is not aware of the fact you have a dormant G 310 that only wakes up when the game is launched. The G310 is a basic GPU, but while you're at the windows desktop it is disabled and the laptop works on the Intel IGP (which doesn't have T&L hardware - btw this is feature most cards since 2003 have).
You could try two things:
*update to the latest Optimus driver (www.nvidia.com)
*if you have the setting: from the drivers force the G310 to be always ON - this way the G310 will no longer power down

If you have an Optimus laptop then it's unlikely you can change the G310. Before buying do some research, for example the G310 has 16SP which is about 1/8 of the 2008 8800GT and lower clocks - this kind of card can't be considered a gamer's card. The 4700 is a few times faster.

My wife has a Samsung R530 with Nvidia 310M graphics. I loaded COD4 onto it just for fun. It worked, though the average frame rate was 30-40 FPS. Hardly a gaming rig. (got pretty hot on the lap too...
