Did you personally experienced this or saying that because someone else said it? I personally never experienced that in the games I played. And it appears (and my opinion) some people mistake lag for microstuttering. Just because you got dual GPU does not mean you will NOT experience lag once in a while.

EVGA GTX 580, it allows you for upgrading later if you feel inclined. I bought a single GTX 480 with this in mind, might get a second one next year when they are even cheaper.

Definitly get a Nvidia card in that case. There are many video editing programs that can take advantage of the cuda cores. Premiere pro gets a very nice boost in performance when you a a bunch of effects and adjustment. Any gtx 580 or gtx 480 would be fine atm, plus you can sli later on.

Too old now, I own a pair myself, equivalent to a 5970 so I'm still happy for single screen .
If OP can afford it,
Get the 6950 crossfire:
Beats a 580, 570 sli, 6990 (with a bit of OC) and inturn equivalent to a 6970 crossfire. And is a bit costlier than a 580.

Why is this even being debated? 6950 is great now, expandable to quadfire later. Also get the MSI Power Edition 6950 2gb. And Op, I really hope you aren't dead set on that psu, get a better efficiency, lesser rated unit that's modular, like a modular 750 if you go double card, or single card with possibility of upgrade, or a 550w for a single card.
Just realized your motherboard only allows for trifire. If you went AMD and want to expand to quadfire, step down on the motherboard to the ASUS p8p67 WS revolution.

Edit: the motherboard allows for 4 x 2.0 pcie 16 lanes at x8 for each. For dual you get true x16 bandwidth thanks to the nf200.

Thread Starter
First of all thanks to all that have posted so far, I really appreciate!

In terms of heat, it won't really matter that much since I already purchased 7 coolers that I will mount on the case, practically maxing out the number of coolers I can mount to it, so the air flow will pretty much be at its best.

As many of you said already, the big advantage of purchasing a GTX 580 is that I can upgrade it by simply adding another one in SLI later if the application or game requirements go higher.

In addition the nVidia cards have CUDA which will help me a lot with my work, the only reason for mentioning the ATI cards in CrossFire was for their high score in benchmarking. And if this wasn't necessary, from what I've read, applications don't really need that much GPU power, is more about CPU and RAM that they desperately need, so grabbing a GTX 580 is probably the smartest move right now.

Although the SLI and/or CrossFire cards punch harder, the games are still playable with a single GPU, and with that baby on I won't have problems for about 1-2 years. I remember my old days when I purchased an overclocked medium to high-end card from BFG(haven't seen them on the market now), which I still run now, and I have to say it's still my fastest and best rated component from my PC.

As for the PSU, I'm guessing a 750W will more than sufficient for the GTX 580 card but I'll have to upgrade it when adding another card. Thus being said, I've read some threads about the GTX 580 from Asus, MSI and eVGA and I tend to buy the MSI since it packs a little more on the frequencies and maintains at lower degrees. Personally I like more the eVGA but I think I'll go on what other people say since they've tested it.

What do you think on this matter?

I think you should go with the MSI...pick one lol

I say thr Frozer II b/c you can overclock it to the Lightning for cheaper. And get an 850 watt psu now...they last longer in your case than most other components.

Look the point of getting the Lightning edition is to OVERCLOCK, the tf2 doesn't have anywhere near the VRMs of the lightning edition.

OP, you've got to understand that you don't need a 750w or anywhere near that number for a single card. NO WHERE NEAR THAT NUMBER.

if you're sticking to single card single monitor, get the lightning edition 580 1.5 gb

with this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...550%20platinum

it is exactly at your recommended usage level and its platinum efficiency, meaning you draw less from the wall than you need, and aren't overcharging your powerbill.

All other 580s (well besides the asus direct cu II, but not for ocing, thats for noise) are junk.
