For mixing different brands, make sure they have the same timing and voltage.

I mixed some Generic Corsair 1333 C9 with XMS3 Corsair 1333 C9, both had identical spec's yet posted countless errors in memtest.

Go figure

Also, the memory controller with AMD is in the CPU itself rather than the motherboard which according to G.Skill tech support makes it more difficult to list AMD chipsets on their memory comparability list's.

As long as the timings match up and the voltages are identical you will most likely be fine. But out of curiosity, why do you want 16 GB or ram?

I would wait for 8GB sticks to become more mainstream. anything you can do with 16GB isn't very hard with 8, just clean up your windoze.

dude, 4gb sticks have only just come out, unless you want this guy to wait till 2015 or...

So presuming you meant 4gb kits, I was thinking the same thing about waiting but jumped in the deep end instead and bought a 4x4gb kit of Ripjaws x series, they work flawlessly.

If you aren't approaching >85% utilization on a regular basis now you aren't going to notice a difference by going to 16 GB.

They are both 1600Mhz @ CL9 @ 1.5V right?
Should be fine because the ratings are the exact same

I'm sure OP has reason to invest in more RAM, i.e. he uses multiple VM workstations at once. I took on 8GB because I needed it for video editing.

You probably don't need 16 GB of RAM, especially if you mainly game on your rig. There are only a few applications where you would ever need more than 8 GB of ram.
