I need ultra portable laptop for video editing. Budget $700-$800

What is your maximum budget?
$750 (more or less 30,000.00 Philippine Peso)

What country are you in?
Philippines

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Video/Photo Editing (Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, AutoCad, 3ds max etc. )

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
ANY. Maybe Asus. No NEO please

What screen size do you require?
ANY. Or maybe 14†or lower. The smaller the better. I can just plug in another Ext. Monitor using HDMI.

What screen resolution do you require?
HD, widescreen, 1080p,720p

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
NEW.

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
ANY.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
No games. But I’ll use it for AUTOCAD, After Effects, 3DS MAX and the like.

What operating system do you need? (if any)
No pre-installed OS is my priority because I already have win7 64-bit installer here.

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Black. Slim and ultra portable.More or less 1Kg. maybe below 2.5kg. Less is better.

How much hard drive space do you need?
7200 RPM is priority. I don’t care if it has small storage space. 250GB,320GB,500GB,750GB

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
HDMI port. Bluetooth. Wifi b/g/n. Infrared. Audio Jack. USB 2.0. USB 3.0 (optional, luxury)
No Optical Drive. I don’t need it. I have portable OD already.

Is there anything else we need to know?
Since this is for Video Editing/CAD, I need dedicated graphics. I’m open to your suggestion about this.
I read about Nvidia gt 540m, and Optimus Capability.
Ram, max of 8gb is good. 16GB is better, but optional since it will be just be a luxury for my budget.

So basically here's what I need/top priorities:

• POWER CPU: i7 or i5 (2nd gen) – AMD is also good and cheaper as they say, but I’m not well versed to its i7, i5 Sandy Bridge counterpart.

• Dedicated Graphics: midrange like GT 540M. anything that can handle the said software.

• HDD: 7200 RPM. not 5400 RPM. Any size.

• RAM can reach upto 8GB (or 16GB. luxury but better )

• Light and Portable. More or less 2kg, less is better.

• has HDMI port, Bluetooth, USB 2.0, Audio Jack, Wifi G/N.

• DOS

No need for:

• CD/DVD/BluRay Drive. - this is what makes the hunt hard, i need portable laptop. Slim. CD/DVD Drive makes lappy bulky ~(=.=~)

• OS

• Luxury Audio. - i just need the basic

To easily get what I'm describing, kindly check this out:

ASUS k43SV
-This is already good, but if there is more portable and slimmer than this please let me know
-This has Optical Drive which I don’t really need.
- HDD is only 5400RPM (but I can change it to 7200RPM and just put the 5400RPM in ext. Enclosure for extra space.

Alienware m11x
-Budget issue ~(-.-~)

Please bear with me.

Thank you so much for your help and insights.

* Oh yeah, and im also open for overclocking tips about the laptop.

Try finding a last gen MacBook Pro 13.3"
My friend picked up one a few months ago for about 800$.

How is the Alienware m11x out of budget? I saw them selling for ~500-600$ barely used/during Dell sales.

I'd say mainly check in the used parts since you're asking for a good bargain and that's where you'll find the best ones

thanks shnur!

Is it safe to go for used parts section? I haven't tried it. I'm not confident in buying not new equipment.

Thanks!

Try a Dell studio 1537. Using it right now. See if you can find the one with i7 processor rather than the Core 2 Duo. It has dedicated graphics and is really fast. Its perfect for video editing, but is horrible for gaming.
