That's about the worst combination. So, yes, the heat is probably normal.
This one is a Smithfield... If I gathered the correct info it's one of the first dual cores that intel made...? It's 2 cores and 2 dies... Understandable why it pumps the heat out.... How do they do under water?

EDIT: welcome to the flaming CPU club BTW
That's funny because even after a few minutes of 75-78*c Full load priming it still didn't throw any errors. Not like a couple of minutes could tell one anything as far as stability goes though.....

NO problem. I don't take it as flaming at all. I'm glad that people are being ho9nest with me about it and Not "Sugar Coating it"... I can't stand it when people sugar coat things....

Ha! well then I guess I won't be trying to play any newer games with the 2 XFX 7900gs that I have! LOL

NIIIICE! Was that OC'd? If so what type of OC, COoling and temps were yielded?

It handled call of duty world at war perfectly though, but that game isn't as dependent on a CPU for physics as Red Faction is. Havok physic engine is intense if you haven't played a game with it before.

Terribly. That's what I've been telling you. You can put it "under water" and it will still get outperformed by a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo.

honestly, no better than they do under air... just put a hyper 212+ on it and you should be able to hit like 4.0GHz stable and that would be prity good for it

lol... i have heard stories of people running them at like 90c just fine for a few months, so 78 shouldn't be much of a problem

Rightfully so! I recently aquired it from a buddy with a decent case, 2Gb of 400mhz ram, intel D101GGC motherboard (only does single channel though) and 550w PSU all for $50....

SO I fugure that I could spend the newegg store credit that I had of $92 on a newer board that could do Dual channel Faster Ram and OC the CPU a bit, just for fun. Maybe through W7 x64 on it and either sell it oooooor Keep it! lol
