My M4a79 Deluxe cost 205 when i bought it 2 years ago! Definitely not cheaper but it has been very reliable.

wow, I paid $180 for a 2500k. Amd better make BD really fast and priced competitively or else they will trail Intel, in most segments, again.

More like for $80 less at MC you can get a i5 2400 quad-core that will be at least 20% faster in every conceivable way to this AMD Phenom II 980.

And you can get H67 motherboards on Newegg that will turbo over clock your i5 to 4Ghz for $69...

Two of next-generation AMD processors (all the APU lines) are already basically out. BD (FX-Series CPU) is on the horizon. This, why even--

But this...

Pure bull. Most audio encoding is single threaded and benefits from clock speed. The 980 should be much closer to the 1100T (yes, turbo boost considered).

A lot of those "multi-threaded" benchmarks aren't matching various other reviews I've seen.

I'd buy a X4 980, purely because my board isn't up to the task of overclocking. But the fact that AMD makes so many boards and CPU's compatible with each other is the pro to the underdog.

Exactly, that was the justification for my sig rig too
Plus in terms of multitasking, I'd rather have 3 or 4 cores at the same or slightly less performance than 2 but more power, especially in the lower-end (i3 vs athlon x3/x4).
