Planning Ahead: Gaming Rig Advice - Page 2

does the OP know how to oc? and if not, does your dad? and wouldn't unlocking the 6950 throw the op in the deep end too soon? I'd suggest getting started on the basics, i.e. not unlocking or OCing till you have learnt a bit about the risks..

Unlocking the card is the easiest OC is tricky, but unlocking the 6950 is very simple.

TechPowerUp has the guide for it

Awesome, I'll have a little peek at it

So my spec'd rig with a 6950 2GB should do fine?
Is a PSU change really necessary?

I see that you are getting a P67 mobo. I know this is still a bit of a new change, but if you are getting that small of a SSD, then I would recommend the Z68. One of a comparable specs would be this one:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/268480

Well, it is a bit of an improvement, and the price is about 40 pounds more, but you will get more out of that SSD. It also give you the option of 1600 RAM without overclocking.

Again, it is definitely your choice, and the mobo that was mentioned earlier is a great choice if you want to stick with a P67.

Good Luck!

I'd rather suggest this guide for the 6950 unlock:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/923...hz-shader.html

This one uses the 6950 Bios flash, then overclocking the card. The TechPowerUp article mainly speaks on the 6970 BIOS flash, which I myself refuse to do.

The CM unit you chose doesn't put out its rated wattage and is overpriced to begin with. I'd rather suggest this unit, which has Seasonic internals:
