from my experience, the g series and old 9x5 dont cool well enough for the 840, but if you have experienced other wise i would live to hear what you did... i use to love the g41s for pentium 4s

EDIT: you could actually probably just OC your own ram high enough... DDR2 OCs prity high

you could check put this board... i havent used it before so i will look up some reviews

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-496-_-Product
Like I said, I only have $93 to spend and I will need new ram if I want to OC the processor being that the Cuirrent Ram is mismatched Brands (same Specs though) and is Only DDR 400mhz Cas 3... So that board is out of the ?

okay thanks for the info and I'll gt something in regards to these recommendations!

So THIS BOARD should be a Decent Combo? It's Asus and a G41

As far as cooling are you talking about the NB on the Board? I could always reseat the NB Heatsink and remove the old Gum paste and replace it with some AS5 or something simlilar!? I've done this on my Sig Ruig Board and Drop the Temps 10*C!

the x48 (asus p5e3 pro) is actualy good for ocing but you nrrd to bump the voltage up very high to get it stable.

and as voltage ocing.... wow there is loads there to do. and it can go high on every level you can think of......

the p45q asus is also very good and is a strong board as well.

Those would be my only choices if I wanted to OC a D.
The G41-31 just won't cut it at all. They are basic chip sets with limited potential.

If so, then why are you wasting it on a Pentium d?
Why not get a decent bistar AM2+ with the Semprom that unlocks to 4450BE and 2 gigs of DDR 3?
It would be the same price, cheaper, faster, cooler, and less power hungry.

This would blow the Pentium d out of the water and then some.

the last board you linked to doesnt support pentium Ds... im looking up reviews on the one you just linked to right now

EDIT: that g41 should work, but idk how stable it will be because it uses the old style VRMs and is only 4 phase from what i can tell... also, it is DDR3 and only accepts up to 1333MHz ram... that may make the DDR3 a little harder to find, but idk cause i usualy dont deal with DDR3 lower than 1600

man you guys are doping a great job with help and info but remember that I'm spending a Credit that I have through newegg and it's only $93....

So I'm down to this board, taking into account Brand, Chipset and price....

P.S. ESK, It says, Petium Dual Cores!? Is this not the same as A pentium D Dual Core?

EDIT 2:

If that Asus Board won't work then This is basically my only Choice for the P31....

I happen to have a pc with that board running the first gen dual core celeron conroes. I can get it from 1.6 to 2 Ghz, then a no boot past that.

Pentium Dual core is the E2xxx Conroes, not the Netburst P4Ds

I'm not sure from experience, so I can't say for sure. It was more of a hopeful guess since most of the Pentium 4 and Pentium D CPUs have a 800MHz FSB, and I used a motherboard with a G31 chipset (Gigabyte G31-S2L) to take a 800MHz FSB CU, a Pentium Dual-core E2180, from 800Mhz to 300MHz FSB successfully (FSB was 333MHz due to RAM). That got it from 1.8GHz to 3GHz. I also used a Core 2 Duo E8400 (stock 1333MHz FSB) in it just fine.

Remember, the chipset (G31/G41) is rated for that (1333MHz), so it will do it. By time you're getting anywhere near, let alone higher than, 1333MHz, the CPU will have long since become a limit. It's got a multiplier of 16. That means at just 1200MHz FSB, you'd be at 4.8GHz! Needless to say, any chipset that does 1333MHz will far and away not limit you before the CPU does. So, the chipset itself can do it.

However, the thing to watch for is the limited flexibility/options. There's a chance your overclock may not go as far due to that.

ik that... it will be a better overclocker than the g31, but idk if it is hard to find 1066 DDR3 memory was all i was saying... unfortunately, most if the boards you have linked to dont garentee support for the d840... im prity sure the ASUS board will support the d840, but im not sure... out of what you have asked about so far, it is the best by a mile

EDIT: the gigabyte will support the d840 for sure, but i cant find any reviews on it... i would still go with the ASUS so far (it should support the D840, im making sure right now)
